I paused for a moment to take this all in before glancing up at his face. I could have guessed what I would see there: Freddie Mercury mustache, gauged earlobes, and a pair of the sort of glasses favored by Bill Gates in the late 1970s. The hair was shaved at the sides, but long and floppy on top. I'm not sure if they can cope with this.

Trapped in the Mundane. The unedifying ramblings of a mediocre polymath. Without the maths part. Monday, August 11, 2014. I came across this picture earlier today while doing some research for work. The original caption read, simply "Private Roy W. Humphrey of Toledo, Ohio is being given blood plasma after he was wounded by shrapnel in Sicily on 8-9-43". In an allied prisoner-of-war camp somewhere in Scotland or Canada. The only man visible is old and bald, sitting off to the edge of the frame.

Mediocrity at its finest. Sunday, June 01, 2014. Wow, this thing still works! Did you know I had a blog? I'd nearly forgotten about it. So What have I been up to since the last time I wrote a letter to the void? Iwent to the New Forest for the first time, and loved it. Spouse and I went for our 2nd wedding anniversary this April. It was really lovely. I even took pictures. Have a look! The best thing, though, that the New Forest offered? SPACE We could walk for miles and see horizon in every direction!

I convinced one of my students to get an eye test when she consistently couldn't see what she was doing while welding- I always thought it was too dark until I put my glasses on, then magically I was able to make out the shape of the join by the light of the weld. And I do mean catch myself- I regularly hear what I'm saying, then get distracted for a few minutes while my brain asks me why I just said what I said, or questions my accent. I love to draw. Of every medium in art, drawing is my favorite, if only because you can draw anywhere, with any number of tools and materials. Some regard drawing as a precursor to greater mediums such as painting or printmaking, but I disagree. I think drawing is a wonderful medium that can stand on its own merit.
