Terra Incognita: December 2012
http://terralayton.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Dispatches from the other east coast. Thursday, December 27, 2012. Happy Holidays, everybody! We stayed in this little hut:. We ate a lot of fruit and drank fruity drinks:. We found a Christmas tree! And we soaked in the beautiful view:. Oh, did we mention there are little lizards everywhere? They make a lot of noise! Phnom Penh Day 2. I waited forever for someone to move out of the way of this shot, so I am posting it. So freshly cut that the fins on their severed heads were still waving. Scott is a cli...

Terra Incognita: June 2013
http://terralayton.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Dispatches from the other east coast. Monday, June 10, 2013. I have been really terrible about updating my blog for the last five months or so. Total failure. But a lot of that is because in mid-January I bought one of these. And then spent six weeks being super excited, of course, but too sick to do much more than this:. We stayed in this awesome cabin on the side of a big hill. Chun jie kuai le! Year of the Snake! One of the biggest ex pat balls of the year, the Irish Ball was an absolute blast. I've t...

Terra Incognita: Sen Monorom
http://terralayton.blogspot.com/2013/06/sen-monorom.html
Dispatches from the other east coast. Sunday, June 9, 2013. Ser Monorom was a bit of a rollercoaster of odd ups and downs. So let's get started. We stopped at a gorgeous waterfall, walked around a coffee plantation, saw what they call a sea of forest, rode around some beautiful mountains and explored the countryside. It was gorgeous. And seeing it in the open air of a motorbike, your body naturally sitting deep down into every sharp turn, was exhilarating. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Clifford Scr...

Terra Incognita: Banlung
http://terralayton.blogspot.com/2013/06/banlung.html
Dispatches from the other east coast. Sunday, June 9, 2013. We had a great time in Banlung. We stayed at a gorgeous resort, with its own private outdoor patio:. And an awesome semi-outdoor bathroom:. It was on a beautiful pond, and a bit of a hike to civilization, so we mostly ate at the hotel restaurant, which had an excellent mix of local cuisine and French food. And I can't conclude a blog about Cambodia without mentioning this popular appetizer, peanuts with a sort of sweet salt. Yum. Scott watching ...

Terra Incognita: The Mighty Mekong
http://terralayton.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-mighty-mekong.html
Dispatches from the other east coast. Sunday, January 6, 2013. We ran into a French couple who didn't really have any luck. Us? We saw one within a minute of getting on the boat. There were a good 5 or 6 active dolphins all over the place, chasing jumping fish and coming up for air a bunch. No jumping out of the water, but we saw plenty of tops of heads and fins and backs. It turns out taking pictures of dolphins from a middle distance is kinda tricky? Our hut is on the far left. View my complete profile.

Terra Incognita: Kampot Day Trip
http://terralayton.blogspot.com/2013/01/kampot-day-trip.html
Dispatches from the other east coast. Sunday, January 6, 2013. This is what it's like driving around in Cambodia. Minivans crammed with 20 people and luggage and the trunk open with people hanging out of it. An pair of cows pulling a wagon of hay stacked ten feet above the top of the wagon, with a man perched on top. Tons of motorbikes. Honking as a basic and constant form of communication. And plenty of what's pictured above. The top of the mountain. This mountain is guarded by a giant. And while it is ...
