Portfolio of Past Blades-. These are axes inspired by Shepherd's Axes, or Fokos, that I have made. They originate in Eastern Europe and are meant for self-defense while walking in the countryside. The axe itself is comfortable in the hand, and the edge is unsharpened for the walker's safety. Think of them a bit more like a war hammer or mace in terms of impact. But an heirloom accessory like this will be treasured! Click image to enlarge-. Shepherd's Axe, or a Fokos'. Click image to enlarge-.

If nothing else, I had a theme to work with when it came to the hilting. Ice is very cold and immeasurably slippery;. It glistens as clear as glass and most like to gems;. It is a floor wrought by the frost, fair to look upon. Anglo Saxon Rune Poem. Tip of the blade. This piece...

An Exploration in Niello. Migration Era Pattern Welding. This is the jewelry side of things- there is a jewelry/ burnout kiln, a casting machine (built into the table) a rolling mill just behind the soldering tray and the miscellany of the jeweler's trade. This is my forging area. There are two forges with an interchangeable burner. One is for large billets and one is for blades. The blade forge is based on Don Fogg's. On the right is my 24 ton Uncle Al's Hydraulic Press. A real boon to the billet-maker!
