Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things. Thursday, 28 December 2017. Steve in the cottage at Fossil Bluff. It has quite "traditional" feel about it. Skiing above Fossil Bluff. Not a bad outlook. Myself and Steve were there for about ten days. Although we were quite busy dewinterising the cottage and preparing the skiway, we did manage to get out and about for a bit of skiing and mountaineering. Although the rock was quite shattered and the snow was a bit firm the situation made up for it. Depot raising. The...

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things: Return to the Alps.

http://blairfyffe.blogspot.com/2015/05/return-to-alps.html

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things. Sunday, 17 May 2015. Return to the Alps. After Norway I was back in the country for a day, before packing up my skis again (well strictly speaking I had never unpacked them), and heading off to the Alps. Myself and Louisa headed to the Bernesse Oberland area of Switzerland for some more ski touring and a few peaks. Day four; Skin up the Ewigshneefeld in some pretty poor weather (winter ML style navigation required) to the Monch Hutte. Sleep lots. Day five; Weather a bit ...

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things: August 2014

http://blairfyffe.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things. Saturday, 9 August 2014. The line of The Constant Gardner. Iain leading the first pitch. Good climbing, but hard with not very much gear. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Generally based in Fort William I do a variety of different jobs; oil flow engineer, countryside ranger, avalanche forecaster etc. I am interested in snow, and like cutting it up to see how it fractures. I also like drinking tea, climbing and generally pottering about the hills. View my complete profile.

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things: November 2014

http://blairfyffe.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things. Friday, 7 November 2014. Near the top of Einich Cairn back in early October. Feels almost like winter, anyone remember how to navigate? Iain Cameron (Britain's most dedicated snowpatcher) next to Britain's most permanent snow patch, the Sphinx patch in Garbh Choire Mor. Guy Steven beside the zero gully patch. This is likely to be the first year since I think 1994 that snow has survived in this location. The Point Five Gully patch looking pretty substantial.

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things. Thursday, 26 June 2014. Iain putting the hours in cleaning the first pitch of Romantic Reality. Myself leading the first pitch, not overly well protected at this point. Iain starting up the crux pitch. Climbing in this are the routes tend to get a bit dirty due to lack of traffic. Some routes which have been cleaned in the last year include;. Romantic Reality(E7) on Creag a Bhancair, cleaned by Iain Small. Delayed Attacked (E3) on Binnein Shuas cleaned this year by Iain.

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things: December 2014

http://blairfyffe.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Blair Fyffe, Climbing and Things. Friday, 5 December 2014. Long Terms Goals (8a on-sight). Sports climbing in Spain is quite pleasant really. Jack from London redpoints his 7c project at Margalef while I enjoy the sunshine and cast (even if I do say so myself) a rather fine shadow onto the crag. Rest days are the best days. Tea, pancakes, a good book (or four) and some sunshine made for some very pleasant rest days. A Spaniard on the lower section of La Boca de la Voz. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). General...

Soft Rock: January 2016

http://gaz-softrock.blogspot.com/2016_01_01_archive.html

Delusional witterings from a North Scotland ledge-shuffler. Sunday, 17 January 2016. It's hilarious when you look in from the outside. What a preposterous way to spend a weekend. The coldest weekend this winter too, with a clear forecast saying that the weather would be better in the east. But I'm inside the bubble, and I don't care. Slapping and scraping, a guttural oath pierces the air as I hit the pads again. Tuesday, 5 January 2016. 7A , Reiff in the Woods. 7A, Ardmair Crag. 7A, Balgy Boulder. Having...

Soft Rock: Witness the (un)fitness

http://gaz-softrock.blogspot.com/2016/03/witness-unfitness.html

Delusional witterings from a North Scotland ledge-shuffler. Tuesday, 22 March 2016. The days of cold bouldering conditions must surely be numbered. It's been a great season. My best ever without a doubt, with a pleasing list of completed projects and fairly quick ticks. The last time out in Torridon I finished off one of the last problems that I'd had on my season's optimistic ticklist by slapping my way up Wee Baws. Within half an hour of topping out Wee Baws. And tickled the chains on Curving Crack.

Soft Rock: September 2015

http://gaz-softrock.blogspot.com/2015_09_01_archive.html

Delusional witterings from a North Scotland ledge-shuffler. Tuesday, 1 September 2015. At Zed Buttress, just down the hill. We agreed that I'd have the morning redpoint shift while Murdo gently warmed up and then we'd head down for his turn in the shade. More importantly, Murdo made his best links yet on The Force. I hear the send-train a' comin down the line. Phew Now I can get married. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Dr Snow: Blair Fyffe's blog. Kev Shields: The Darkness. The thoughts of Andy Moles. Profes...

Soft Rock: Retrospective

http://gaz-softrock.blogspot.com/2016/12/retrospective.html

Delusional witterings from a North Scotland ledge-shuffler. Saturday, 24 December 2016. The annual retrospective blog post: what have the 2016 pebble-wrestling highlights been? Probably. So, because of this weird skew in my head, it feels like I've not really had a good year, when in reality I've done a load of really good things. Here's a single highlight from each month:. 7A, Reiff in the Woods. I'd actually gone to Kishorn to try The Universal. E1 5b, Stanage. 7b, Zed Buttress, Brin. Doesn't feature i...

http://gaz-softrock.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Delusional witterings from a North Scotland ledge-shuffler. Monday, 13 June 2016. A typical Highland day in June. The sweet damp greens of summer unfurled; leaves and flowers and fronds uncurling. Brilliant yellow broom, bluebell blue; swallows and swifts and martens race each other through the drizzle. As Spring wore on I managed a few trips to the likely sport crags Am Fasgadh and Zed Buttress, fluking my way up the crimpy 7b Little Minx. At the latter and power shrieking my way up Super Warm Up. Years...

Soft Rock: October 2015

http://gaz-softrock.blogspot.com/2015_10_01_archive.html

Delusional witterings from a North Scotland ledge-shuffler. Thursday, 1 October 2015. Just back in from finishing off a short and fiery love affair on the Moray coast. On Sunday Mrs M and I headed down to see what all the fuss was about at Primrose Bay, a supposed Cummingston 2.0 with a prettier sandy beach and clutch of recently developed boulder problems. Something for everyone. We weren't dissapointed. Here's Hamish on it:. Amateur Acrobatics, Primrose Bay, Moray. I was on a flying visit on Sunday so ...

http://gaz-softrock.blogspot.com/2015_11_01_archive.html

Delusional witterings from a North Scotland ledge-shuffler. Saturday, 14 November 2015. Today, something very strange happened. It's something that I've been working towards for years; an ambition that has taken me on a long and winding road, and finally, somehow, today I brought it to reality. I still can't quite take it in. I first set eyes on Malcolm Smith's Arete. The inevitable pirouette. (Photo: Rory Brown). Why was I so weak? What did I have to do to get up this bloody bit of rock? In the interim,...

Blair's Blog

Sunday, November 20, 2016. A barometer is a tool used to measure atmospheric pressure. We built a barometer for the purpose of finding the atmospheric pressure where we live, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI and to have a better understanding of pressure and how it operates. When looking at our data, you could conclude that as pressure increases, the balloon will concave, causing the needle to be higher, and as pressure decreases the balloon will pop out, causing the needle to be lower. Better Every Day.

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Since I last wrote, which.has been quite a while, I have discovered a few things. 1) Stop Analyzing. I always over analyze. It is a problem, because over-analyzing is just the same as worrying to me.and worrying, well worrying never gets you anywhere. What do I want for dinner? What do I want to wear to work? WHAT can I do with my life? What do I WANT to do with my life? The questions are endless. And the answers? Antique Dealer. Another dream job? This Weekend we went to New Y...
