A peculiar Erasmus: Settling down
http://unerasmusparticolare.blogspot.com/2010/06/settling-down.html
Paolo G. Giarrusso's travel blog. Wednesday, June 9, 2010. OK, I wrote about all kinds of different experiences here, but I've not answered the very basic questions that everybody is asking me. And now it's time to do so, after I had some time to settle down a bit. What am I doing here now? My research group is just great. People publishing relevant. Stuff on top-venue conferences. And right now I'm exploring new knowledge directions. Our group consists of one full professor, Klaus Ostermann. People in m...

Union types | Michid's Weblog
https://michid.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/union-types
In his recent blog post. Miles Sabin came up with an ingenious way of expressing union types in Scala. A union type is the union of some types: its values are the union of the values of each of the individual types. In a nutshell he first defines the negation of types as. Type [A] = A = Nothing. And then the union of two types via De Morgan’s law. Type [T, U] = [ [T] with [U]. With the following auxiliary constructs. Type [A] = [ [A] type [T, U] = { type λ[X] = [X] : (T U) }. 8230; and beyond. It should ...

SGen – The Nursery | Mostly Software
https://schani.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/sgen-the-nursery
SGen – The Nursery. This is the second part of a series of blog posts on SGen. Mono’s new garbage collector. In this installment we shall be taking a closer look at the first generation, also called the “nursery”. When invoking Mono. See the man page for details. Calling from managed into unmanaged code involves doing a relatively costly transition. To avoid this the fast paths of the allocation functions are managed code. They only handle allocation from the TLAB. If the thread does not have...Here is a...

A peculiar Erasmus: Looking for German Germans
http://unerasmusparticolare.blogspot.com/2010/06/looking-for-german-germans.html
Paolo G. Giarrusso's travel blog. Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Looking for German Germans. You know what one expects from Germans. Precise people, very careful to detail, everybody arriving on time. Let's call it the Prussian German stereotype, because that is its historical root (as Germans tell me). Well, it turns out that:. The difference here is that even people who hate maths tend to simplify too much the reality of life. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

A peculiar Erasmus: How to make health insurance unfair. Or the need of group therapy for self respect of Italians

Paolo G. Giarrusso's travel blog. Sunday, June 6, 2010. How to make health insurance unfair. Or the need of group therapy for self respect of Italians. Maybe you think that the place where things don't work is Italy, and just Italy. It's not true! A disclaimer: I live in Hessen, and I don't know how much of this applies to the rest of Germany. It's like when you need group therapy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. BlaisorBlade: In My Humble Opinion. Storie dalla Sala Macchine.

A peculiar Erasmus: Finding German Germans
http://unerasmusparticolare.blogspot.com/2010/06/finding-german-germans.html
Paolo G. Giarrusso's travel blog. Wednesday, June 9, 2010. In the end, I found some more stereotypical Germans. But hey, they're not considered normal! It was in the immigration office. When the officer, whom we'll call Mrs. Whoknows, asked my passport, she made me almost feel guilty, even if I had one! She behaved like an army general. The words she said were not that bad - it was just the tone! And my Chinese friend tell me she's the kindest in that office. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A peculiar Erasmus: How to dress in public parks
http://unerasmusparticolare.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-to-dress-in-public-parks.html
Paolo G. Giarrusso's travel blog. Wednesday, June 9, 2010. How to dress in public parks. Today, while walking in the city park along the Lahn river, we saw a naked guy, front down, taking sun. Not even a swimsuit! Without any policemen hurrying to catch him, but it didn't seem it was so normal, either! Did you ever see something like that in Italy? I mean, outside of Indian reservation-like special places for nudists? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Storie dalla Sala Macchine.
