JOHN BLISS and CO. History of John Bliss. This is a small box compass for use in a small boat. It is liquid filled, but has no float on the card. Diameter of card: 2; of bowl: 3 1/4; of gimbal ring: 3 3/4. Box: 4 5/8 sq, 3 1/4 high. Bowl 2 1/8 high. Dial: flat, divided to 1/2 pts, no degree marks. No float. Signed John Bliss and Co. New York. JOHN BLISS and CO. History of John Bliss. Signed John Bliss and Co. New York on eyepiece bezels, but has Made in France on cross bar. The objective lenses are 50mm in diameter, and I estimate magnification to be 4 or 5 power. No case or strap, but in excellent condition. All black with black Morocco leather grips. The 1909 catalog of John Bliss & Co. lists these as primarily for day use, but satisfactory for day/night use as well (they sold a separate pair of night glasses). By Bardou of Paris, perhaps?
