aaronbot3000: Final Exam: Beetleweight overhead bar combat robot

http://blog.aaronbot3000.com/p/final-exam-beetleweight-overhead-bar.html

The build log of Aaron Fan. Final Exam: Beetleweight overhead bar combat robot. Final Exam is a three pound combat robot. Designed to be flat and have an enormous range. In actuality it has a knack for flipping itself over like the saddest turtle. Sans front titanium wedge. When it is able spin up its oversized blade and hit the enemy before flipping itself over from the spinning blade's instability, it can do quite a bit of damage. Sometimes it had a hat on to keep it from getting stuck upside down.

The build log of Aaron Fan. Monday, September 16, 2013. Brief review of the 6V 1000 RPM gearmotor from ebay. This is an attempt to find a less expensive replacement for the pricey but effective FingerTech Silver Sparks for use in beetleweight (3 lb) combat robots. Note, Gold Sparks are so bad they really shouldn't be sold as robot gearboxes. A gearbox that strips under the load of driving straight is a little ridiculous. The rundown of this motor with a 4S, 16.6 V battery:. Max speed: 2400 RPM. It produc...

The build log of Aaron Fan. Jarvis: RFID and Online Apartment Access. Yet another RFID apartment access control project. The system was designed to have:. No outside components, or maintenance will remove it. A functional lock using the key so that apartment maintenance can still enter, significantly reducing changes of administrative problems. Web access, in case the ID card is forgotten. Also it's really cool to unlock the door from the couch. First iteration, without sensors. Whee breadboard. Boarduin...

The build log of Aaron Fan. Sunday, May 5, 2013. A Guide to Better Dithering on Laser Engravers. By using a pattern of dark or light dots, this ensures gives better control of how dark colors appear. However, the built in dithering is, in my opinion, pretty dumb. With the power of GIMP and a bunch of test engraves, we can do better. From source image to engraving! Source image by jtobijah. The dots are slightly different because I lost the original processed image, and forgot the settings. For wood, etch...

Beaut[EE]: March 2012

http://t3chnolochic.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 11, 2012. So first off, I saw these awesome tights from Black Milk. They're circuit board leggings. And they're a little pricey, but I think worth it for the novelty. I got Black Milk's Purple Galaxy Leggings. As a Christmas present. I swear, they are the best leggings ever. They're really durable and thick like under armor. Go buy these for yourself (or screen print your own layout) because they are hilariously baller. After I made Segboard. Also, er, well. The true other reason for analog...

Beaut[EE]: The Complementary Filter for Dummies

http://t3chnolochic.blogspot.com/2012/11/complementary-filters-for-dummies.html

Monday, November 5, 2012. The Complementary Filter for Dummies. For 6UAT (Undergrad Presentation Class), I had to give a talk to high schoolers about some technical subject. Since BabyCopter and Segboard both need to measure angle, I talked about the complementary filter. Here is my lolzy presentation. I tried to put it on youtube to preserve my multiple animations (a picture's worth a thousand words, an animation's worth ten thousand). If it's too fast, spacebar is your best friend. Beaut[EE]: June 2012

http://t3chnolochic.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 7, 2012. I saw this and thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. I might cheat this time and start with ArduCopter. So I don't have to come up with the controls by hand. Bad part is that a nice ArduPilotMega Board is expensive. But then again I don't think I'll need the GPS, barometer, etc. However, a toned-down version. Also, lookee here! Oh and one last treat before I become too busy again. Posted by Qiaodan [Jordan] Jin Stone. Monday, June 4, 2012. Also don't buy a (surprise! Unfor...

Saturday, February 18, 2012. Things That Are Entertaining :P. Term started (booooo) but I'm pretty excited about classes :D I get to take another lab class from my favorite professor so far, Steve Leeb. But this time on microcontrollers (6.115). Now I'm writing in Assembly, a low-level machine language. The last time I touched Assembly was during 6.004 where everyone makes a beta processor. However, that's written in wannabe Verilog. And you don't write in Assembly until like half-way through the semester.

Beaut[EE]: August 2011

http://t3chnolochic.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 22, 2011. As some of you know, I've spent the last 2 weeks working on a giant leaf planetarium! Basically, I walked into IKEA. One day and saw these giant leaf canopies. The nice thing is that you can attach it to anything! The mount IKEA sells you is made specifically for walls, but with a little ingenuity, you can manage other places as well. You might even be able to use them as a bussle for a dress. Plus, it would be a wonderful demonstration of etextiles outside the domain of wearables.

Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Fashion 2010 (I'll try to stop whining). So I havent actually been using this blog for any fashion and since Im stuck in Minnesota, might as well. Anonymous angst certainly has its cathartic perks, but regardless, how am I going to re[de]fine fashion engineering with that kind of an attitude? Long Live the McQueen. From the Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. . By the way, I liked the collection so much, 2/3 of it is up here. Haha. Posted by Qiaodan [Jordan] Jin Stone.

Beaut[EE]: I'm a Beardy-Weirdy?

http://t3chnolochic.blogspot.com/2012/12/im-beardy-weirdy.html

Monday, December 31, 2012. This was my year of being old and cranky (senior fall), so I decided to become a beardy-weirdy (analog-esque EE). For some reason, I always associated analog people with old engineers probably because I once saw a picture of Bob Pease. And assumed all analog-ers looked like this. My favorite programming language is . solder". Btws, this was before I realized that Prof Roberge used to look like James Bond back in the day. Glad I did, because that class was awesome! Fun class), b...

The Chronicle

Of a ColdFusion Expatriate. August 04, 2015. Have you extended Emacs in a novel way? Do you want to share your creation with the wide world of Emacs users? Well then, you will need to learn how to create a proper Emacs package. Packaging for Emacs is generally pretty easy and there is a lot of help available, both within Emacs itself and obviously on the Internet. There are a few things, though, that are conspicuously and annoyingly hard to find help with so I decided to document them for you. One questi...

LIFE101, Section 1, w/ Prof. Baxter Binkley. TAKE NOTES; THE FINAL EXAM WILL BE COMPREHENSIVE! 8220;QUEER” a.k.a., my ‘trigger’. Posted by aaron@netfactorsolutions.com. 3 April 2015, 4:42 pm. If I had a personal “n-word”, it would be the “q-word”, but I think it is silly to use childlike abbreviations, so it’s just. Of course, triggers are not trans things, or even LGBT things…they are things that set off a flashback transporting the person back to an event of her/his original trauma. As I try to explain...

Aaron Broadhurst | thinking in pictures

I avoided it like the plague a few weeks ago. But I had thought and then thought better of it. Sig Sauer .45 and the Confederate Battle Flag a toxic mix indeed. Horribly evocative though it seems to be, it lets the rest of the US. Off the hook and demonises the working class white yokels of the South. It’s just a month since Dylann Roof shot nine people dead in the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church in Charleston, South Carolina, and it’s already dropped off the agenda. When do we stop?
