Saturday, December 06, 2014. You know you are getting old when your day goes like this. Son wakes up and wants to play the new dance game you stayed up late installing for him the night before. Go to swimming lessons. Assessor says your son is ready for the next level. Have a quick lunch at McDonalds to celebrate and it's not even 11 am. Then head off to Chinese School in Miranda for a presentation day where your son performs along with the rest of his class. Come home and cook miso steak stirfry.

Monday, March 09, 2015. Brown days in Sydney. Sometimes in Sydney on the days like today when the fires are burning the sky takes on a hazy Asian tinge. As I walked to work, hungry from a lack of breakfast, I could imagine a small food stall along the footpath, trestle tables and plastic chairs to the side, patrons slurping steaming bowls of noodles and soup or snacking on goreng pisang from little plastic bags. The other purposes are those that raise us above all other known species: To understand and to create. The better our understanding the Universe the better we serve our first purpose as well and the better we can create. It disappoints me that so many believe that our purpose is to believe or to gain personal wealth and power to the subversion of all other goals.

Sunday, November 23, 2014. One of those odd November days with temperatures in the high thirties. A pity the pool was ready. Thanks to quite a few days of high winds, the flowering gums. And unusable pool vacuum pipes the pool has taken on a greenish tinge. I bought replacement pipes and $250 worth of chemicals and managed to suck up the leaves on the bottom. Monday, April 9, 2007. After one month travelling through China, Hong Kong and Japan on plane, train, cable car, trishaw and whatever else you can imagine we have finally made it home again. Tuesday, April 10, 2007. The missing luggage was delivered safely to the house after 10pm last night. I was asked if we were carrying back rocks by the delivery man. After a month of travel it is pleasant to be back in our own home, back with our puppy who looks less puppyish than when we left. Yet I am not tired of travel. I still listen to the jets as they fly above our house and think about how I would like to be on them. Maybe back to Europe next time, but with a stopover somewhere in Asia.
