This is the start of a digital painting of Mikasa from Attack on Titan. I’ve had a few folks ask about how to start a project, so I’ve decided to throw this up along with a couple of quick tips. The easiest way to start your figure is with an ellipse for the skull and a centre line the length of the rest of the body (which may curve or bend depending upon the pose or perspective). Update to an older piece. 26 Jul. 2015. I occasionally give talks at conventions on the fundamentals of drawing, or what life is like as a freelance illustrator. One of the questions that occasionally comes up is how to combat art block. You draw; then, you keep drawing.
