Saturday, April 8, 2017. Elastic Beanstalk Worker Environment Timeouts. I have been working with Worker Environments in AWS Elastic Beanstalk. I found all the timeouts confusing at first, so I share my findings here. The instances in your Worker Environment have a demon that reads messages from an SQS Queue. That queue has a Default Visibility Timeout. And Message Retention Period. In addition, the Elastic Beanstalk Worker Configuration has its own Visibility Timeout. In addition to a Connection Timeout.

Saturday, January 25, 2014. Decoding Your AWS Bill (Part 1). As you begin to adopt AWS you will likely be asked to report on both usage and cost. One way to do this is using the Monthly Billing report. In this post I will show you how to download your bill and analyze it using PowerShell. AWS offers a feature called Programmatic Billing Access. When programmatic billing access is enabled, AWS periodically saves a copy of your bill to an S3 bucket. To enable programmatic billing access click here. You can...

Friday, May 30, 2014. Setting the Hostname in a SysPreped AMI. When you create an Windows AMI (Amazon Machine Image) it is configured to generate a random server name. Often this name does not meet your needs. Maybe your company has a specific naming convention (e.g US-NYC-1234) or you just want to use a descriptive name (e.g. WEB01). Whatever the reason, let's look at how to set the name when you launch the machine. So how can you set the name? You will find a ComputerName element in the SysPrep2008&#46...

Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Configuring an AWS Customer Gateway Behind a NAT. In the AWS VPC console, I created a VPN Connection as shown below. Note that I have entered the public IP address of the Netgear router (203.0.113.123) as the IP address of a new Customer Gateway. I also configured static routing and entered the CIDR block of my home network (192.168.0.0/16). Crypto keyring keyring-vpn-d67b98bf-0 local-address 203.0.113.123! Replace with 192.168.1.2. Wouldn't you like to know...

Wouldn't you like to know. Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Small people, big home. I've determined there must be a midget living in my house. And not just any midget, a rather crafty one at that. I'm sure this is the same conclusion most parents have come to, but you don't hear most of them talking about it, so I figured I would start the discussion. I have proof, don't look at me like that, I have proof! For example, look at the laundry. I do atleast 3 loads of laundry a day. And then there's the food! Jen too...

A Day at the Beech. Family, Faith, Fun and Adventures. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. First Open Water Triathlon. June 17, 2013. Last year I did my first triathlon and really enjoyed it. It was the E.P. Tom Sawyer triathlon; great event for beginners in my opinion. The biggest thing about that race was the fact that the swim portion of the event was in a pool. I’ve been training in a pool and it really offers a comfort level that keeps the beginner at ease.
