This Week In CloseBrace - 12/16/16

http://blog.closebrace.com/this-week-in-closebrace-20161216

This Week In CloseBrace - 12/16/16. Dec 16, 2016. This has been an awesome week for CloseBrace development! I've been very happy with the progress I've made on my various milestones. So far, but there's nothing quite like really digging in and building a website. I've been working with HTML since before CSS was a thing (I designed and built my first website in 1996, which—holy crap! As mentioned in this week's Tuesday update, I'm using flexbox for layout. Next week: more CloseBrace coding, specifically, ...

http://blog.closebrace.com/this-week-in-closebrace-20170106

This Week In CloseBrace - 01/06/17. Jan 06, 2017. It was a slightly shortened week at CloseBrace, as I didn't get back to work on the site until Tuesday, but I've made some really excellent progress in a variety of important areas. I'll get to that in a bit, but first, in the spirit of being open, I want to mention some less happy news. For the first time, I'm behind on a few milestones. Here they are:. Ad Solution for Sites in place. Payment Gateways Chosen and Set Up. Company Bank Account Set Up. I&#x2...

This Year in CloseBrace - 2016

http://blog.closebrace.com/this-year-in-closebrace-2016

This Year in CloseBrace - 2016. Dec 22, 2016. So, what've I accomplished for CloseBrace in 2016? A lot, actually, which is something I feel really good about! For starters, I mean … I went full-time on my own business! That's something few people ever get to do, and I'm happy to have taken the plunge. It's already been an incredible learning experience so far, and I've still got a long way to go. Beyond that, I launched this blog. Did a whole bunch of business document writing and general setup. I'll als...

The Authenticatening

Jan 11, 2017. This week, I've been working on additional pages and services related to authentication. As mentioned in last week's wrapup blog post, KeystoneJS. Comes with only a bare minimum of that kind of stuff. An admin can add a user, and the user can then log in, but only through a Keystone-branded backend. There's no "forgot password" or "reset password" or "register" or "user profile" or any of that, though administrators do have access to user profiles and can make some changes. I'm the fou...

This Week In CloseBrace - 01/13/2017

http://blog.closebrace.com/this-week-in-closebrace-20170113

This Week In CloseBrace - 01/13/2017. Jan 13, 2017. This was a frustrating week from a coding standpoint because I spent a lot of time chasing bugs and rewriting systems I'd thought were done. Sometimes that's how it goes! So what happened this week? Next week's Tuesday update, which I will hopefully remember to write on Tuesday and not Wednesday, will likely cover deployment research. I'll be hosting the site on Digital Ocean. And let me know! Providence, RI, USA. Sign Up for Email Announcements!

Security in Industry and Academia

Security in Industry and Academia. Let's Enable Cloud Computing. I've been thinking a lot about "cloud computing" over the past few months, and I keep coming back to the same conclusion every time: the InfoSec community is inhibiting IT innovation by throwing up weak, largely unsubstantiated concerns over the security risks of "cloud computing." Overall, our industry's reaction smacks of "fear of the unknown." [1]. Virtual environments, being controlled by different actors at different layers, may lead t...

Southern Exposure | The Adventures of Carl & Natalie… and Our Van

The Adventures of Carl and Natalie… and Our Van. Bahia San Ignacio – Grey Whales. February 1, 2011 by Carl Moczydlowsky. I’ve always wanted to see the Grey Whale calving in Baja California Sur. A marine biologist working on her Ph.D. at UC Santa Barbara, for advice on which one to visit. Her suggestion from years with Pro Peninsula. Was to stay and tour at Kuyima. In San Ignacio. Lonely Planet and Mexican Camping. Make the same recommendation. And another video on our YouTube channel. Posted in Baja Sur.

Modernizing the topographic map. Let’s start with an example showing the USGS topo around Mt Morgan (S) unshaded (from State of California. Now here’s the same spot shaded (from ArcGIS map viewer. It’s much easier to get a sense of the topography at a glance with the shaded version. This led to one of my first cartographic decisions, how was I going to treat hillshading? Next, I turned to Google’s Terrain maps. For the area around Mount Morgan (S) and Mount Tom:. Next up, I took a look at TopOSM. The rea...

My Life and Thinking and BookReview Logs.
