What if co-ops fulfilled their true potential? Whatif.coop is a multi-author blog to explore what the full potential of co-ops could be. Insights from Whatis.coop will be fed back to the national UK Congress and to Co-ops UK. Please draw on and share your personal experience and aspirations for the movement. If you want to express frustration (which is fine) you also have to add the “wouldn’t it be better if…” part. It’s partly based on the Ideal Government blog. What’s with the donkeys? March 2, 2017.

In times of social crises – let’s build movements of solidarity – whatif.coop
https://whatif.coop/2016/11/09/in-times-of-social-crises-lets-build-movements-of-solidarity
What if co-ops fulfilled their true potential? In times of social crises – let’s build movements of solidarity. With the wide spread inequality, division, disconnect and anti-establishment feelings rising here in UK and globally, we need to come together as a social movement speaking the language of the people wishing for change and articulate a positive vision of the cooperative future. Let’s stop justifying ourselves as viable businesses, we are so much more. November 9, 2016. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

just 10 photos: A sunny Sunday in Manchester
http://www.just10photos.com/2015/07/a-sunny-sunday-in-manchester.html
July 01, 2015. A sunny Sunday in Manchester. My day job has recently taken me to Manchester a few times. The usual routine being get into Manchester, get work done, get home. But on this occasion I had a little free time to explore the city, with the camera of course. Walking around Manchester with no plan was unlikely to lead to any good photos, so with a bit of research I found a website called Ready Steady Pro. Which had published a Google Map route for a photo walk. Sky bridges between buildings seem...

What if co-ops fulfilled their true potential? Outside the Cooperative Bubble: we need a common vision of cooperative development to strengthen our outreach. A few years ago I didn’t know anything about cooperatives. When I thought of a Coop I thought about the shop down the road, or maybe getting a funeral. When speaking with my friends, this is not an uncommon reaction. And then on social media I saw a trending advert that said It’s almost as if someone were out there making up pointless jobs just for ...

What if co-ops fulfilled their true potential? Eclipse and re-emergence of the coop movement. In his recently republished Cooperative Manifesto. Tim Huet explains why he came to the conclusion that ‘There Is No More Important Social Change Work You Can Do Than Cooperative Development’. Huet was one of the first organisers of the Arizmendi Assocation of Cooperatives. Which Ed Mayo describes as a great example of coop replication. The difficult question of times. Was to ‘arrange the powers of production, d...

What if co-ops fulfilled their true potential? Four models of innovation. How do we innovate? A study of co-operatives and innovation was launched at the recent Quebec International Co-operative Business Summit, which offers a useful framework for thinking about how we do this. The report was based on a survey of co-operatives, including some of the largest financial co-operatives in the world. The four ‘logics’ they explore are:. Four models of co-operative innovation. 8211; the sector has a great track...

The potential for co-operative CICs – whatif.coop
https://whatif.coop/2017/01/10/the-potential-for-co-operative-cics
What if co-ops fulfilled their true potential? The potential for co-operative CICs. John Mulkerrin argues that co-operative CICs present a largely undiscovered opportunity. It is still widely unknown that CICs can already be Co-operative and I suggest investment into fully understanding the relevance and potential of a suite of Co-operative CICs worthy of inclusion in that development. The first part is easy. There are already over 12000 CICs on the public register, of which (approximately) 9000 are Limi...
