A blog about molecular science. January 5, 2014. For a first post, I thought I’d talk about a method that many working on post-translationally-modified biomolecules may have used (or may want to be familiar with if they haven’t! Most of us are familiar with the Western Blot. For that matter, what about all those other directions on the compass (North-East, North-West, etc.)? So is there an Eastern blot? How many times has the Eastern blot been named? 8220; An earlier paper. 8221; was defined. Detection o...

A blog about molecular science. Posttranslational modifications – What are these things stuck to my protein? August 27, 2014. If you took introductory biochemistry, you are probably familiar with the most common biopolymers: nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), proteins, and carbohydrates. The roles of the first two polymers are probably best encapsulated in what is known as the central dogma of molecular biology. Coined by Prof. Crick). Essentially, DNA stores the sequential coding information, it is. Enzymes a...

A blog about molecular science. Monthly Archives: February 2014. On the scientific endeavor. February 20, 2014. I’ve been making an effort to include writings from prominent chemists to my personal reading list. My favourite source is the. Profiles, Pathways, and Dreams. Series put out by the ACS (but now out of print.) These are autobiographical accounts of careers in chemistry, and often feature great snippets of stories about other famous chemists or bits of philosophy. Trouble at CIHR continues.

A blog about molecular science. Monthly Archives: July 2014. RSC takes Chemical Science open access. July 21, 2014. To follow up on the last post. Regarding open access journals in the chemistry space, it looks like. Will be going to a gold open access model. The most notable feature here is that the publisher says they will waive any publication charges “for at least two years.”. This seems like a serious move from RSC, and one hopes that other chemistry publishers will follow suite. I still buy cds.
