Impermanence and (the Architect’s) Ego. Window on Futures Past. Spline – David Kesler watercolor – 1997. We seek completion. Yet we remain unresolved. The big bang, as it were, keeps the trajectory going in one direction. We tragically seek love, and tie our hopes to the illusory. This desire for completion is one of many factors that continue to push technology and culture forward. The iPhone is not the end. We all know this. Technology may over-promise – we know this too! Mankind initially created reli...
Windows | David Kesler Architect

Impermanence and (the Architect’s) Ego. Window on Futures Past. Window on Futures Past. Windows start for most folks as openings in a structure. Yet the origin of a “window” has more to do with the space in between. There is a crack in everything. From this sliver of space, we see new horizons. Indeed, the window can be space between structure. Between the interstices of structure. So a window is best, arguably , under erasure. The not-window. What is the shape of the glass? Must a window have glass?

Impermanence and (the Architect’s) Ego. Window on Futures Past. So who is the client. All of us – the independents – honor and obey the client. The “good’ business man serves the client. We respect those who choose to hire us. We seek the service of men and women. We seek to extend their knowledge base. We seek to open their minds to the infinite. We seek to do more than solve the problem. In the solving of the problem we seek to move towards the solving of …. The client is served. And we choose to serve.

Impermanence and (the Architect’s) Ego. Window on Futures Past. Impermanence and (the Architect’s) Ego. I read an article recently on the subject of “things ain’t looking good for god”. The article was written in response to the recent discovery of a truly earth-like planet in a distant solar system. Indeed, there appears to be a reasonable likelihood of discovering life in our own solar system in the oceans of the moons Europa, Enceladus, Ganymede and, yes, perhaps Mars. As an architect, this fact doesn...

The Story of David Kaspar. Online journal and ponderings about the Internet, gadgets and photography. Enabling new Google photo face and people search in UK, Europe, Germany. June 02, 2015. Google Photos was re-launched recently during a slick presentation at Google I/O 2015. Besides the unlimited storage for 16MP photos and 1080p videos what caught my interest the most was the demo of the face and people search. All your traffic is tunneled to an exit point of your choosing, for example a data center in...

Titles and Roles in Startups. Titles in startups are often overrated and mean a lot less than a lot of people think. Almost by definition a startup is a small team that’s executing on dozens of fronts in parallel, and that usually means mutiple roles per founder.

David Keen on Twitter. Run multiple Gatling simulations with Maven. November 28, 2014. Is nice load testing framework that uses Scala, Akka and Netty. It’s so much better than JMeter. It’s pretty easy to get started with scenarios written in a nice Scala DSL and it produces useful reports too. It also has a Maven plugin so you can incorporate continuous performance testing in your builds. Briefly describes a way of doing this using executions but the example is a little light. September 22, 2014. Bonus r...

Friday, June 17, 2011. What amazes me about people who think they aren't replaceable in a job arrogantly believe themselves even more important when they leave of their own accord. In reality they were most likely to be replaced. They were never really tapped nor considered for advancement because they were so narrow sighted and pigeonholed themselves to just a few tasks. They then harness their network to accomplish the tasks at hand. A concept that is lost on many not in a management position. By the e...

David K. Sutton Photography Blog: Raw Shutter Junkie Musings
Outer Banks: Kickin’ It Old School With 35mm Film, Pentax K1000. David K. Sutton. Many months ago I decided I wanted a photographic challenge, and so I picked up an old Pentax K1000 manual SLR camera off eBay. The plan was to start shooting with some Kodak TRI-X 400. Black and white 35mm film. However, the film and the camera sat around for months unused. Then came a trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for a Thanksgiving vacation, and along came the big Nikon D7100. Small Sony RX-100 II. Sometimes ...
