GR1D is an interactive media facade with forty low-density pixels, previously installed outside the main entrance to CalArts in an area of the building's unique waffle-pattern ceiling. The installation opened in April of 2012 and lasted four months, using three-by-three foot ceiling tiles as pixels with 1-watt RGB LEDs. GR1D is the topic of Chapter 5 in my MFA thesis. REDHOT is a deconstructed robotic piano by kinetic artist Trimpin. Suspended three feet in the air by a custom aluminum frame, the piano plays a variety of re-imagined Beethoven pieces and original works. REDHOT was originally commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and has traveled wide, winning an award. At the Portland Art Museum, and later as a centerpiece of the REBOOT:music exhibition. At the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation.

Originally a research project at CalArts, most of the developmental work was sponsored by the Natural User Interface Group ( NUI Group, Inc. As part of the 2010 Google Summer of Code. Previously working on several other multi-touch environments, I was particularly interested in how surfaces mediated group collaboration in art and music creation-based applications.
