Static to Dynamic Transformation - I - Gaurav's Blog

http://www.blog.gaurav.im/2014/09/06/static-to-dynamic-transformation

How I stopped worrying about determinism and started loving randomness. Static to Dynamic Transformation - I. Instead of going into fractal trees directly, I am going to be posting a lot of assorted related material that I am going through. Most of it is joint work with Dhruv and Bhuwan. This post is about the Static-to-Dynamic Transformation lecture by Jeff Erickson. I won’t be formal here, so there would be a lot of chinks in the explanation. So either excuse me for that, or read the original notes.

Putting my Twitter friends and followers on the Map - II (Using D3.js) - Gaurav's Blog

http://www.blog.gaurav.im/2013/01/25/putting-my-twitter-friends-and-followers-on-the-map-ii-using-d3-js

How I stopped worrying about determinism and started loving randomness. Putting My Twitter Friends and Followers on the Map - II (Using D3.js). I had done a visualisation using R. Where I plotted the locations of my friends and followers on Twitter on a map. I re-did this visualisation using D3.js. It is a fantastic visualisation tool, which a lot of features. I could only explore a fraction of the API for my purpose, but you can see a lot of cool examples. You can have a look at the D3.js code.

How I stopped worrying about determinism and started loving randomness. It is fascinating, how simple data structures can be used to build web-scale systems (Related: A funny video on MongoDB. If this doesn’t make sense to you yet, allow me to slowly build up to the story. One of the most simple, and yet powerful algorithm a programmer has in his toolbox is the Binary Search. There are far too many applications to it. Consider reading this Quora answer. If the static structure has a space complexity of $...

How I stopped worrying about determinism and started loving randomness. My name is Gaurav, and I am an engineer living in Silicon Valley. Before this, I was toiling hard as a grad student at Stony Brook University. Hunting down free food. Checkout some of my work on GitHub. Or follow me on Twitter. For anything formal, see my LinkedIn. I feel reasonably confident about the spam filters these days to give out my email address here: gaurav.menghani@gmail.com. Highlights of SIGIR 2016.

Linking C++ Templates - Gaurav's Blog

http://www.blog.gaurav.im/2012/11/28/linking-c-templates

How I stopped worrying about determinism and started loving randomness. Today I was trying to link together code which uses C Templates. The usual accepted pattern is to put the declarations in the header, and the definitions in a separate .hpp / .cpp file. However, I was unable to get them to link it together. To my surprise, I discovered (or re-discovered, probably) that, when dealing with C Templates, you need to put the definitions in the header file. A good explanation of why it is so, is here.

No You'd rather be at Watsi. And help some people out, or sign up for giving a dollar a day. If you are looking for an easier way to help. Here's a few more people that you might consider giving to:. I can't really speak for any of these charities - you should evaluate them yourselves before you decide to put your good money in them. These are simply the ones I choose to give to. I am Sandesh. My resume is a bit out of date, and I am too lazy to update it. I shall put it up exactly. And read some quotes.

Cool Computer Tricks n Tips. The Best of all Stuff! When Linux Hangs or Completely Freezes. Posted by Gautam Aggarwal. On Wednesday, November 17, 2010. When Windows hangs itself we all know what to do right? Were just reaching for the combination  [Ctrl] [Alt] [Del] . Control Alt Delete). But if you try this in Linux nothing happens (in some distributions, like Ubuntu, you actually get the menu for shutting down your system, but this don’t work when your system hags or freezes). So what to do? A website ...

Building rockstar Hybrid mobile apps using Javascript. You are a “WEB-ONLY” nodejs developer and realise that most of the productive businesses are trending to go mobile only (sooner or later). Ok, maybe you build responsive apps that somehow blend to work with browsers but web standards cannot directly use the mobile API’s. This means powerful products cannot utilise the interaction with users in realtime using mobile api’s such as push notification, access etc. And a clientside MVC attachment. Nodejs h...
