The number of community events and meetings is increasing and the Centre is now not big enough to provide for the increased demand. Planning approval has just been given for another 2,000 homes in Wash Common. An increasing number of community groups are unable to pay hire charges. For community feedback on the project.

Thames Valley Energy did an initial technical study into the possibility of using the Church building as the provider of new community space and concluded that a full Feasibility Study was required. A Topographical Survey was done by Midlands Surveys. A GeoReport was obtained from the British Geological Survey. A heat loss model and calculations were made by Peter Brett Associates. Architectural design was done by Acanthus Clews Architects.

Final Phase Work with Costings. Project Inputs and Benefits. St George’s Church is located in the centre of Wash Common, to the south of Newbury in West Berkshire. Wash Common has a population of about 5,000 living in about 2,000 homes which are a mix of older properties and new estates. In many ways, it is a self sufficient community with five shops, three pubs and a doctor’s surgery. The community focus of the church is continually being strengthened and added to.
