Feature Generation and Selection for Single Character Recognition - Ian Kilgore's blog

Feature Generation and Selection for Single Character Recognition. Template matching w/ LSPC (brute force benchmark). Hu moments (feature benchmark). Theoretical bound and PCA. Entropy (H(Y=1 X), H(X Y=1). Greedy hill-climbing and pruning. I used the Tesseract. OCR engine to read the letters in each tile after segmenting tiles with OpenCV. Complications from using it in single character mode, or because Tesseract is garbage. I generated training/test data by segmenting several screenshots. And is the sam...

Reconstructing phase space and estimating maximal Lyapunov exponent from experimental time series - Ian Kilgore's blog

http://blog.iank.org/reconstructing-phase-space-and-estimating-maximal-lyapunov-exponent-from-experimental-time-series.html

Reconstructing phase space and estimating maximal Lyapunov exponent from experimental time series. Last week I took some measurements of a system for my research and needed to show if the system was chaotic. The measured data was a 1-dimensional time series from a Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV). In order to show the system was chaotic I reconstructed state space using the method of delays, and estimated the maximal Lyapunov exponent of the system. I took the $z$ variable ( lorenz z.txt. Wrote a C program.

In the course of my research I needed to demonstrate that some experimental data is chaotic. This post is an example of how I reconstruct phase space from 1-D experimental data by the method of delays, plot the underlying attractor, and estimate the maximal Lyapunov exponent (characterizing the divergence of the system).

A blog in the clouds. Flaperon Setup with Gyroscopic Stabilization. Written by Ian on June 2nd, 2014. Flaperons are ailerons which exhibit flap-like behavior, altering the lift of their wing section beyond basic roll control. This F-18 in carrier landing configuration has clearly visible flaperons. Both ailerons are defected downwards simultaneously. The entire wing is altered to provide additional lift, instead of only an inboard flapped portion. Click to continue ». Posted in Bixler 2.
