surly gourmand: Meat and Bread
http://surlygourmand.blogspot.com/2015/01/meat-and-bread.html
Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. At the OTHER end of the sandwich shop continuum, however: is Vancouver’s Meat and Bread. As the name might indicate, it’s a minimalist sandwich shop, though the minimalism applies pretty much only to the décor. Napkins are always abundant and free, and good thing, too: these sandwiches are sloppy as fuck. A meatball sub ($9, and all prices here are listed in Canadian dollars. Because it’s Canadia, remember? You have to stick your...
surly gourmand: Lecosho
http://surlygourmand.blogspot.com/2011/06/lecosho.html
Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Thursday, June 23, 2011. The handmade spaetzle ($6) was tasty. This price got you a big bowl filled with shitloads of chewy pasta squiggles, the golden- brown ringlets mounded up, like a careless toss of a pretty girl’s head on a summer day. This cascade was topped with a gossamer pile of microplaned romano, like cheesy dandruff on Goldilocks’ scalp. Maybe I went too far with that dumb fantasy. After all, how unrealistic is that? Lecosho is located at 89 U...
surly gourmand: Damn the Weather
http://surlygourmand.blogspot.com/2014/12/damn-weather.html
Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Thursday, December 04, 2014. So it was with great trepidation that I entered Damn the Weather. With its oddly specific name and fancy cocktail list and giant ice cubes, I expected a maddening descent into twee mayhem. But the food menu seemed interesting so we decided to press our luck. Rating: 8 vests out of 10. Damn the Weather is located at 116 1st Ave S. Damn the Weather does not take reservations, but they can be prank called at 206-946-1283.
surly gourmand: The London Plane
http://surlygourmand.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-london-plane.html
Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Tuesday, October 14, 2014. The menu at The London Plane looked refreshingly adult, however, and so we gleefully attended lunch there with the anticipation of getting to pick items from a menu that seemed to come from an alternate universe in which truffle oil never existed. So you’ll never have to actually see or eat his puke. But if you get the beet hummus, that’s what it would totally be like. Braised pole beans with charred cherry tomatoes and dill ($10...

Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Tuesday, January 21, 2014. 8226; A man threw a bunch of black widow spiders onto a child. 8226; Somebody wedgied a pregnant woman. 8226; A kid sprayed the crowd with a Super Soaker filled with hydrofluoric acid. 8226; Richard Sherman yelled a lot. But is Din Tai Fung actually delicious enough to elicit such a cultlike response? Short answer: no. Long answer: no, but… Longest answer: read the rest of this review. When you bite in, the aforementioned juicy j...

Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Requiem for Dot's Bistrot. It’s sad as fuck when something magical vanishes, while something that sucks continues to exist. Just as it’s a shame that Philip Seymour Hoffman is dead while Ashton Kutcher continues to plague the world with his spittle, so too is it a GOD DAMN SHAME that Dot’s Bistrot closed last week while the following shitass restaurants are still open:. 1 That’s Amore. 3 Bucca Di Beppo. 6 Patty’s Eggnest. Himself wo...

Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Monday, February 09, 2015. Note: this is NOT a review of FedEx, nor is it about a restaurant named FedEx for some reason. In fact, it's not a review at all. So don't fucking read it if you're going to bitch. Sincerely, Your Friend the Surly Motherfucking Gourmand. A grizzled gold prospector answered the door. Hi, sir," I introduced myself. "I'm here on behalf of FedEx to investigate your missing shipment.". I glanced back down into the water, but I couldn&...
surly gourmand: Tallulah's
http://surlygourmand.blogspot.com/2015/01/talullahs.html
Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Friday, January 09, 2015. But of course the menu is nothing like that: instead, it’s a very Matt Dillonesque flirtation with middle eastern flavors, with shit like walnut muhammara ($5) and red pepper hummus ($5) and grilled halloumi cheese with grapefruit and fennel ($12). We skipped that stuff because we’d just eaten at London Plane. And everyone bitched at me about it. Or even, god forbid, BRADY BUNCH! Rating: 6.5 shortages out of 10.

surly gourmand: Vespolina
http://surlygourmand.blogspot.com/2014/11/vespolina.html
Devouring slices of misery so you don't have to. Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Anyway, the next day was Saturday and, still completely stoned, we went to Vespolina. We started with the antipasto misto ($11) which was delightful. A plate of mortadella was sliced as thinly as bible pages, and wouldn’t you rather swear on a 1000 page pile of mortadella instead of the boring fucking bible? Rating: 8.5 drugs out of 10. Vespolina is located at 96 Union St. For reservations call 206-682-3590. 8/8/16, 2:44 AM.

life | consists of math, science, maybe other stuff too
Test post please ignore. I'm starting a blog. Thinking ahead, it might be cool to look back on the things I encounter in life. This might turn out to be a microblog, depending on how much I feel I can write about. So, in the hopes of christening this blog, here's some cool looking Greek letters! Okay it was only one. I'll make it up to you. For (int i=0; i 100; i) { printf(%d, i); }. Not good enough still? How will I ever please you. August 5, 2014. Test post please ignore. Proudly powered by WordPress.
Jake Kovar. | a blog about nothing
A blog about nothing. Anyways, I should get back to studying for my (delayed) finals, so until next time…. I’m just about ready to head off to Journalism Day 2K13, and I have a feeling it’s going to be amazing this year, even though it’s not at CSU this time. I’ll update later. I CARE (a lot). I CARE (a lot). I am trying to root a Galaxy S4 Active on AT&T. So far, its going ok, but it is for sure challenging. I guess that Samsung locked down the bootloader Continue reading →. Adventures in Game Development. Only slightly less interesting than playing the games I've developed. Tuesday, February 16, 2016. It's certainly a different kind of challenge than I'm used to, and I'm learning to be more patient with myself and more determined. It's very difficult, but I'm really enjoying the work. Fortunately, I really feel like I'm picking it up quickly and I'm already contributing a lot, despite the setbacks from my lack of coding background. Sunday, December 6, 2015. I'm extremely ex...
