James's Blog at JamesBaquet.com: Choose Wisely
http://blog.jamesbaquet.com/2009/08/choose-wisely.html
The best way to keep up with my life and my online activities. More about this blog. Saturday, August 1, 2009. After five years here, I still can't speak much Chinese, let alone read it. So, what to do when, at the ATM, I was confronted by a screen full of Chinese characters, and the choice to "Exit" or "Confirm"? Add to this that someone walked in and was waiting behind me (even as I was taking the picture). But this one was a list of five items, ending in a special phone number. Subscribe to My Blog.

The best way to keep up with my life and my online activities. More about this blog. Tuesday, July 28, 2009. After spending the day writing (and, as a warm-up for the evening, having Indian food for lunch), I went to Miracle Meals for dinner with Indian friends Aswini and Sudha. This was a prelude to attending a small concert of Indian classical music, specifically a raga. Called Mian Ki Malhar for bringing the monsoon rain, and a dhun. Tune) based on Bhatiali. Ended in a song by Rabindranath Tagore.

http://articles.jamesbaquet.com/2009/05/articles-and-stuff.html
More in the Library. An archive of things I've written. More about the articles. Wednesday, May 27, 2009. I've been writing since before I can remember. This facility got me through university with a minimum of hassle (so why'd it take six years? In this collection you'll find old school papers, articles I've written for magazines, pieces of unfinished books, and the stuff I've recovered from other websites I've operated. Longer pieces will link out to archives elsewhere on the net for easier viewing.

More in the Library. An archive of things I've written. More about the articles. Saturday, July 4, 2009. A Lifetime Reading List a la Joseph Campbell. This reading list was developed by Joseph Campbell for his Mythology class at Sarah Lawrence College. It was published in Appendix 2 of The Mythic Dimension. Edited by Antony Van Couvering. Campbell replied by saying that she had misunderstood him. The list wasn't meant to be read that semester; they had the rest of their lives to read it! I did in Japan.

More in the Library. An archive of things I've written. More about the articles. Thursday, June 25, 2009. Several years ago, I had a blog in which I re-published some of my more interesting correspondence. One of the letters I published there was regarding the phrase used by Joseph Campbell, Transparent to Transcendence. As of this date, if you Google that phrase, my crappy old blog is the first to come up. Still, the article gives several perspectives on the meaning of this phrase. It's worth a look.

He reached the country of Maghada, and the capital city of Rajagaha. Here he continued to beg for alms. At the Feet of Sri Ramakrishna: A Wisdom Blog at JamesBaquet.com: From a Scrawl to a Fine Hand
http://ramakrishna.jamesbaquet.com/2009/08/from-scrawl-to-fine-hand.html
Finding wisdom for our everyday lives in the words of one of India's greatest saints. More about Sri Ramakrishna. From a Scrawl to a Fine Hand. A boy begins to learn writing by drawing big scrawls, before he can master a finer hand. So we must learn concentration of the mind by fixing it first on forms; and when we have attained success at that, we can more easily fix it upon the formless. Indian holy man Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) was a mystic who saw the Truth behind all religions. His teachings led to the creation of the Vedanta Society. In this page, I will share many of these sayings, with some simple reflections on their meaning. I hope that his words will come through as clear to us in English as they did to his Bengali listeners. You can read a brief biography. The fir...

http://ramakrishna.jamesbaquet.com/2009/08/from-big-targets-to-small.html
Finding wisdom for our everyday lives in the words of one of India's greatest saints. More about Sri Ramakrishna. From Big Targets to Small. A marksman learns to shoot by first taking aim at large objects; the better he gets, the easier it becomes to hit smaller things. So when the mind has been trained to fix on images with form, it becomes easier to fix it upon images having no form. See the notes to " A Bell Rings With and Without Form. Ultimate James Bond Fan Blog. No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to blog! Silva v. Sanchez. Posted in May 13th, 2013. Lazy Sunday, I watched AVTAK and LTK yesterday. Several rants are to ensue, starting with:. Franz Sanchez is a sadistic psychopath! Raoul Silva is also a sadistic psychopath! His maniacal plot is to shame MI-6, kill M, and directly and indirectly, many of her field agents. Sanchez has been called not a big enough villain but Silva has been called the best villain since Kronsteen or Goldfinger.
