Text messages flew ( Zenoss. While he was doing that, guess what I was doing? Yeah, trying to make Knighthood. In the past, a performance pattern ...

I expanded on this a bit over here: http:/ blog.jdconley.com/2011/07/how-to-recruit-great-engineering-talent.html. I'm taking some time out of my lunch break today, when I'd much rather be indulging in some geek porn over at Hacker News. To submit a plea on behalf of all the in-demand geeks out there. But, I digress. I do enjoy money. I am human, and a good American consumer. I like to...Probably ...

Starin' at the Wall. Sometimes you just gotta take a step back and stare at the wall. Friday, June 26, 2009. Functional Optimistic Concurrency in C#. A few months ago Phil Haack wrote about how C# 3.0 is a gateway drug. To functional programming. (Yeah, that's how long ago I started writing this blog.) I couldn't agree more. I find myself solving problems using functional rather than imperative programming quite often nowadays. It's much more elegant for many problem spaces. My wall is staffed with a hea...

Starin' at the Wall. Sometimes you just gotta take a step back and stare at the wall. Thursday, July 28, 2011. How to Recruit Great Engineering Talent. Raiders of the Last Nerd. I'd like to expand on that a bit. The recruiting industry is broken. Stopped most cold call telemarketers in their tracks. And why didn't they tell me? My next position was also through a (different) contracting company. I was paid $45/hr ( $90k/yr) having 3 years of professional experience. I found out well after the fac...Us ge...

Thoughts on Being a Programmer. Wed 15 August 2012. Thoughts on being a programmer. Posted to Hacker News here. Is a short list of useful thoughts. Each is just a bullet point. That format is probably part of the appeal. They are a starting point and each reader fills them in to a degree based on their own experiences and perspectives. I wanted to expand on them from my point of view. Perfection, Practice, and Publication. Wed 06 April 2011. Quick Guide to Mercurial. Wed 23 September 2009.
What I did today
What I did today. It took me a while to figure out how I can make NetBeans work with my self signed ssl certificate that I use for my subversion server:. Perform any svn operation with the locally installed command line client (addressing the server with the untrusted certificate). When the client responds with messages about an untrusted certificate, accept it. Under Windows, copy your C: Documents and Settings Application Data Subversion auth svn.ssl.server to. Then, svn command work well under NetBeans.

These are not the text messages you want to receive from your wife on Mother's Day, when you are four hours away from home. Ramblings of an Interesting Nature
Ramblings of an Interesting Nature. Commentary on technology, usability, and the Mac. Saturday, August 11, 2007. Cheep V1agra 4 SAle! Well, this blog is back, after a brief, um, let's say "technical outage". No, that's too charitable. Let's say "poor-policy-induced outage". Or perhaps "ridiculously-brain-dead-and-just-plain-wacko-policy-induced outage". This article will discuss what happened, and why Blogger's policy (and therefore Google's policy, since they own Blogger) is so terrible. Hmm Well, I had...
