Thoughts of a quantum agnostic. The Life of a Theorist. This is a permanent link to one of my most popular posts (not surprisingly it is one that demonstrates my innate “Charlie Brown” qualities). It first appeared here on July 1, 2007. 11:00-1:00 Assist with solar observing session sponsored by my local astronomy club. Mentally unstable girl spent entire time attempting to kiss me. Apparently mentally unstable people find me attractive. 3:00-4:00 Relaxing hour spent fly fishing in which I lose four flie...

The Decline of Reason? | Quantum Moxie

Thoughts of a quantum agnostic. The Decline of Reason? Everyone should read this. The copy appearing on that page has errors clearly introduced during the copying process, but the underlying argument is brilliant and biting. Thanks to Günther Greindl. For bringing this to my attention. 11 Responses to “The Decline of Reason? February 8, 2009 at 9:00 am. So many quacks, so little time. February 8, 2009 at 9:31 am. Thoughts of a quantum agnostic. Pictures I took of the recent lunar eclipse (only two came out, but not bad considering I just snapped them with my digital camera). That’s Saturn down to the left. The files are pretty large just so you know. Four recent photos of the Merriland River in Wells, Maine. Water’s still a little high (and cold) for the trout to be biting, but it’s getting there. And a recent brook trout I caught in a nice morning of fishing in town…. Couple of small bass…. Sunset near Big Sky.

How to answer a question: a simple system | DDI
http://www.michaelnielsen.org/ddi/how-to-answer-a-question-a-simple-system
Michael’s main blog. How to answer a question: a simple system. By Michael Nielsen on June 13, 2012. In 2011, IBM got a lot of publicity when it demonstrated a computer named Watson. Which was designed to answer questions on the game show. Watson was good enough to be competitive with (and ultimately better than) some of the best ever Jeopardy players. And a followup paper by Brill, Dumais and Banko. The AskMSR system was developed for a US-Government-run workshop called TREC. In contrast to many questio...

Under the hood, it represented numbers in balanced ternary logic. Each possible value is best labelled as 0,1 or -1. Given a string of such numbers. They would represent a number. The devel...
