Night | Jim Larson Photography

http://blog.jimlarsonphotography.com/category/night

Images from around the World. On September 27, 2015. I had great opportunity to shoot the Lunar Eclipse tonight under clear skies of Idaho. Here are two of my favorites. I even managed to capture a star in the background. The first image was not long after the earth totally covered the moon with its shadow. The second was close to the end of total eclipse. On October 8, 2014. On June 22, 2013. Think about what you are photographing. The moon is an object that is in direct sunlight about the same dist...

She still acts like a puppy. Jamaica’s First Snow. On November 15, 2014. Heading down the same theme from the last post, here is another first for Jamaica. She got to experience her first snow and loved it! Happy Birthday, Jamaica. On November 1, 2014. Happy birthday, Jamaica. You’re an awesome dog! 2014 San Juan Islands Vacation Day 8.

Images from around the World. 2014 San Juan Islands Vacation Day 8. On September 19, 2014. A dog and its owner having a great time on their dinghy. It’s time to head back to Bellingham and turn in the boat for the next charter guests. We had a most wonderful vacation, probably the best one we have ever had. Will our next vacation be on a sailboat or on another tug? Well, we are getting rather spoiled with tugs, but sailing is so much fun. Guess we will all know when our next vacation shows up here. Our g...

Al Larson Photography » Spring Is Here?

http://allarsonphotography.com/2015/02/07/spring-is-here-2

Photography from the Bluebird Man. At 10:04 PM under Flowers. I ventured outside today and strolled by the flower garden. This is only five days after Ground Hog day. To my amazement there in the weeds and grass left over from last fall was this beautiful SnowDrop. I hastely removed most of the unwanted vegetation and broke out the camera. What will be next? On Nest Box on Christmas Day. On III Corps Signal Battalion USMC. On Nest Box on Christmas Day. On Nest Box on Christmas Day.

Al Larson Photography » Flowers

http://allarsonphotography.com/category/flowers

Photography from the Bluebird Man. Archive for the 'Flowers' Category. A few stalks of Gloriosa Daisy fell over from weight and laid prone on the ground. Days later I noticed the blossoms had turned skyward. These flowers are related to sunflowers which we know follow the sun as it arcs from horizon to horizon. It is as though these plants had a brain to tell them to turn and follow the solar source of energy. Nature’s magic is wonderful. Spring Is On the Way. Shows up in early August along roadsides and...

Photography from the Bluebird Man. Archive for the 'Scenery' Category. Occasionally when I stop along the road a group of onlookers gather nearby. Spring Is On the Way. On February 26th I found this hardy little flower already in bloom. This means Spring is just around the corner. With the snow bank just inches away I’m guessing that the plant probably pushed its way through snow before it burst into bloom. The flower is aptly named “Snowdrop.”. http://allarsonphotography.com/category/miscellaneous

Photography from the Bluebird Man. Archive for the 'Miscellaneous' Category. Occasionally when I stop along the road a group of onlookers gather nearby. Yesterday I saw my first chipmunk of the season. This prompted me to browse through my photo files. I came across this shot of the greedy little beggars stuffing their cheeks with food I set out for the birds. The birdseed soon disappeared. Would you call this a herd of chipmunks, a gaggle, or a flock? Nest Box on Christmas Day. 3 responses so far. I am ...

Jim Larson Photography | About

http://www.jimlarsonphotography.com/about.html

My interest in photography goes all the way back to junior high school. Yes, they had cameras back then! I learned the old school way, shooting with film, processing my own negatives and printing from those negatives. My Dad had a dark room in our house and we would buy film on 100 foot rolls and roll it on to individual canisters. The art of photography was much different back then but was instrumental in my learning the techniques. I love photography and it seems to find it’s way into nearly everything...

Al Larson Photography » Winter Shelter

http://allarsonphotography.com/2015/03/15/winter-shelter

Photography from the Bluebird Man. At 8:38 PM under Animals. Snow piled up under the eaves of the house this winter. Warm weather melted all of the snow in the yard except for this drift next to the house. The center melted away exposing this rodent nest. Some species of rodent had built itself a nice warm place to spend the winter. On Nest Box on Christmas Day. On III Corps Signal Battalion USMC. On Nest Box on Christmas Day. Al Larson Photography » Varied Thrush

http://allarsonphotography.com/2015/01/03/varied-thrush-2

Photography from the Bluebird Man. At 8:41 PM under Birds. This morning I looked out of the kitchen window and was surprized to see this infrequent visitor. This is a Varied Thrush. Arthur Cleveland Bent in his “Life Histories of North American Thrushes, Kinglets, and their Allies” recounts an incident in October 1906 when there were hundreds of Varied Thrush flying high overhead migrating south for the winter. Many present day birders would pay a premium to witness such a sight. One response so far.

Al Larson Photography » How Many?

http://allarsonphotography.com/2015/01/22/how-many

Photography from the Bluebird Man. At 8:56 PM under Birds. I look out at a flock of birds feeding in the yard. How many are there? By the way, notice how these juncos do not crowd each other. They tend to keep at least a peck apart. 2 responses so far. 2 Responses to “How Many? On 25 Jan 2015 at 6:22 PM. They couldn’t without bumping wings. On 30 Jan 2015 at 1:37 PM. Sunday, March 22, 2009. Visiting the Ghost Towns of Eastern Oregon. It's not hard to find the ghost towns of Eastern Oregon. Gas station attendants and websites give great directions and with any luck, you will stumble upon some you didn't plan to encounter. But visiting them is a must for any adventurous, curious or nostalgic Oregonian. My roommate and I ventured out to Eastern Oregon this weekend to do just that (find us some ghost towns). What we found was amazing! On our trip, we visited:. This old w...
