I'm still here. honest. On 12 May 2013. I was hoping to have an updated version of the console library for those who use Visual Studio but difficulties in porting the project from the original language, VC 6 (don’t laugh), to VS2010 have frustrated the hell out of me recently. I’ll spare all of you the insanely technical and ranty diatribe running through my head right now and just say this: a little disconcerting to see the compiler gag and throw errors over it’s own header files. :S. http://blog.kathekonta.com/2012/08/16/article-seven-coming

I'm still here. honest. On 16 August 2012. Article Seven is just about complete. After four re-writes and well over 40 hours put into it, this is definitely the most difficult article I’ve ever written. By far I’ve found the greatest challenge is making sure that there is a trajectory to the guide; each article leads into the next with just one improvement or one new feature. Rewrite #4 came when I realized that there are really two fundamental issues when designing (and teaching) non-player actors: 1) i...

I'm still here. honest. The Light at the End of the Tunnel. On 9 March 2013. Posted in: Firmware Development. After about 40 emails back and forth, they threw in the towel and said: “we don’t have a clue, good luck”. It was at that point that a rewrite was authorized and development began anew…. I managed to finish on the 1st of March – on time (which is a #@$! Ing miracle in the software and firmware world). Part of it I owe to my experience salvaging doomed projects from my previous job, but much o...

Find the time for what you really want to do. Interview: Herculeum Rogue-Like Game, Tuukka Turto. May 22, 2013. What were your qualifications? Did you mainly use your existing experience, or learn new skills? What was your time budget? How did you allocate it and plan the tasks? What schedule worked best for you? I don’t have a time budget, I just work on the project when I have a suitable slot of time and I feel like doing something about the game. The original plan was really short:. What were the bigg...

Swan's Blog - The Personal Weblog of Katharine Swan, Colorado Freelance Writer

The joys of working from home. I love working from home. I love working for myself, more specifically: being able to set my own hours, work at my own pace, and choose my own clients. Of course, all of those things can also be downfalls if you dont have good time management skills (which sometimes I dont). But there are consistently stories and research findings indicating that working from home makes employees happier. Labels: working from home. A successful overnight write-in. One of the little traditio...
