Lead, Guide, Walk Beside: August 2015

Why Do We Homeschool? Aug 24, 2015. Changes in Our Homeschool. These changes in our homeschool have actually been a long time coming. I have been homeschooling for what feels like ages- 15 years. And I have three children that are done with our homeschool, though I don't know that I can honestly say that they have "graduated." (That is a post for another day.). Making mistakes is GOOD- I know that. But only if we learn. Hence, the need for real change. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My name is Rachel Keppne...

Why Do We Homeschool? The video above is of the homeschool conference I was privileged to speak at in January of 2014. You can see a photo of me giving the keynote address at 13 seconds into the video.). I like to talk. Way, way, WAY too much. And I REALLY like speaking at homeschool conventions and have done it quite a number of times over my seventeen years of homeschooling. It was the first time in my life I was actually scared to get up in front of people. NO JOKE. Here's what I like to speak about:.
Lead, Guide, Walk Beside: Our Homeschooling Journey
https://blog.leadguidewalkbeside.com/p/about.html
Why Do We Homeschool? I was pregnant with #5, and was also helping homeschool my 12yo sister, at the time. My blogging, much like my homeschooling, has been a journey, with many twists and turns. And with each of those forks in the path, both have changed to better suit my present circumstances. In all truth, I feel that I am an unschooling "refugee." After being a "conventional" homeschooler for the first two years of our homeschool (notice the workbooks in the photo above). But there were things that t...

Why Do We Homeschool? Aug 16, 2016. And So, It Begins. First Day of Our Homeschool. Where we live, the public-schooled kids have been in school since the end of July, and even the charter school where my seminary kids attend began on August 1st. You could say that the school year is in full swing around here! And, so, after a summer full of planning, we have jumped into a new school year. There are many child development experts (1). These are my littles, enjoying their new, fun, school-time-only toys an...
Lead, Guide, Walk Beside: December 2015

Why Do We Homeschool? Dec 1, 2015. December 2015 Term: Week One. The Adoration of the Shepherds" by Rembrandt v an Rijn. Our family is loving our time together each day, learning using Charlotte Mason principles. I do. Have to spend time planning each term, so that I can use a customized plan just for our family. Planning ahead for each term helps me sooo much on a day to day basis. It makes our learning time flow smoothly, yet gives me lots of wiggle room to still be spontaneous within those plans.

The Road Less Traveled: July 2015
http://jeefamily.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Thursday, July 2, 2015. A year in PA. Two weekends ago marked our 1-year anniversary of moving to Pennsylvania, and this weekend marks the 1-year anniversary of moving into our home. So I thought I'd intersperse photos of us enjoying the great outdoors here in our new state with observations and anecdotes about life here. Little did we know. We didn't see the road for over 2 months. I've never seen as...

The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Saturday, June 6, 2015. Just another school day at our house. My resource for this was the book Physics is Fun. By Roberto Trostli. I also had Path of Discovery Grade 6. By Eric Fairman, which some people prefer, and I considered some of the things in that resource, but in the end I stuck mostly with Trostli for demonstration ideas. This is a special kind of plastic rod. (I can't remember what it ...

The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Sunday, July 21, 2013. On the Fourth of July we took a ferry ride with all of the extended family to Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound. My children had never been on a boat, so this was particularly exciting. Dallin saw a large purple jellyfish in the water just off the pier. He was told that was quite a rare sighting, so he felt very proud of himself. Dallin checking out the cannon. Sariah and her co...

The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Saturday, May 2, 2015. I haven't posted in over six months. There is no dire reason, I just have a very uncooperative computer. In fact, I'm shocked that my screen hasn't frozen right here in the middle of this post as it has every other time I've tried to blog. Labels: General Waldorf homeschooling. So hugs to you, and although it must be hard to see Dallin head off to school its good that you are ta...
The Road Less Traveled: And... the countdown is on!
http://jeefamily.blogspot.com/2015/08/and-countdown-is-on.html
The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Thursday, August 13, 2015. And the countdown is on! School starts in two weeks. Two weeks! I keep telling myself that even if I don't get every detail of every lesson block planned in advance like I want to, I'm already light years ahead of where I was last year at this time. This year I really won't be having to spend almost every single Saturday of the entire school year trying to stay on track.

The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Monday, July 28, 2014. We ran into quite the downpour the last 15 minutes of our walk, hence the muddy, soaked children in the last pictures.). PS This blog is going to be more picture and general family outing-oriented since we now live several thousand miles away from all our relatives. Gotta keep everyone up to date! Friday, July 25, 2014. Saying goodbye to our old stomping grounds. In Omaha, Saria...
The Road Less Traveled: October 2013

The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Friday, October 25, 2013. The rest of the Ancient World. We finished Dallin's lesson block on ancient civilizations by spending a week on Persia and a week on Mesopotamia. He was enthralled with the idea that we were talking about Iran and Iraq. We used the Live Ed curriculum idea of doing a watercolor map of the Fertile Crescent. As recommended by the Christopherus curriculum, we read the book. By Ge...

The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Thursday, August 21, 2014. The "Here's to a new school year! We start school next week. My how the summer has flown by! I'm a planner, and this summer has shot my planning. In my years of homeschooling, I've never felt less prepared for a new year. But I feel like it will all be OK. I'll just be putting in alot of time on Saturdays. Now I do have a full, more "traditional" school year all blocked out ...
The Road Less Traveled: March 2014

The Road Less Traveled. Blogging about homeschooling, parenting, infertility, adoption, and family life. Saturday, March 8, 2014. First grade language arts. We did a lot of beeswax modelling along with drawing and writing in her main lesson book. Unlike Dallin, Sariah loves to come up with summaries of the stories we do. She generally has very specific ideas on what she will write in the book. The Poor Miller's Boy and His Cat. Labels: Waldorf grade 1. Friday, March 7, 2014. We tried to sprout a sweet po...

May 2, 2011. Should Internet Marketers Ever Cold Call? Have you ever received a cold call from an internet marketing company, asking to discuss handling your company’s internet marketing & blogging? Is it just me… or is a cold sales call from an internet marketing firm not a bit counter-intuitive? If this company is so good at internet marketing, their efforts online should be creating discussions and relationships that should eventually lead to a ‘warm’ call. Isn’t lead generation.
