Stratford Hall Projects: September 2011

http://stratfordhallprojects.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 22, 2011. A project of a different kind. Stratford Hall is still cleaning up from the major weather/natural events of the last month. With the exception of a crooked painting and swinging chandeliers (and a few rattled nerves), Stratford Hall did not experience any real lasting impact from the earthquake on August 23rd, 2011. Hurricane Irene did leave a lasting mark. Abigail Newkirk, Director of Interpretation. Friday, September 16, 2011. The 2011 AASLH (. Annual Meeting is being held...

Thursday, February 17, 2011. Cultural Landscape Laboratory Update. The Cultural Landscape Laboratory project is a joint venture of Stratford Hall, the University of Georgia, and landscape professionals from The Jaeger Company (see Tim Barrett’s introduction to the project in a previous blog). Thursday, August 25, 2011. Country houses.in England and Wales. Throughout the month of July, I had the good fortune to be able to travel in England and northern Wales as part of the Attingham Summer School. A study program run by The Attingham Trust. In attending this program, I hoped to not only learn about the specific sites we were visiting and life in the English country house. And adjacent cow yard, a wood house (for house's firewood storage), and an early-18th century kitchen block with kitchen, l...

Stratford Hall Projects: December 2011

Friday, December 16, 2011. Rare Book Catalog Project Update. Over the past summer I have become more acquainted with the library's rare book collection than I ever thought was possible. I was very familiar with a small number of titles that I normally pulled from the library shelves to show to visitors, but the bulk of the collection remained largely unknown to me. Not cataloged and difficult to explore because of the many high shelves, the rare book collection was doing little except for collecting dust.

Stratford Hall Projects: April 2012

http://stratfordhallprojects.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 26, 2012. We're squirrely at Stratford! Many visitors that come into the gift shop often wonder why we have squirrel items for sale. The squirrel sitting on a horizontal branch, cracking a nut, is the main element of the Lee family crest, as described in Burke's General Armory, registry of all English armorial bearings, from earliest times, listed at the College of Heralds. Underneath the Lee family crest is the Latin motto: Non Incautus Futuri. Please e-mail Janet Branson. Century that g...

WWDC 2010 – An Aussie’s Experience. Posted by leeane on June 1, 2011. In 2010, I was fortunate and lucky enough to be awarded an Apple University Consortium (AUC) staff scholarship. One of the advantages of working at University! At the time, I had been heavily involved in mobile web apps and iOS apps – both professionally and personally and was also well and truly an Apple convert. So to say I was over the moon was an under statement. Tip #1 – Stay up until night time on the day you arrive. Make an effo...
