brianjphillips: GRE scores
http://brianjphillips.blogspot.com/2005/11/gre-scores.html
Monday, November 14, 2005. This post has been revised to focus on political science. I update the post as I get new info. See U.S. News and World Report department rankings at end of post.). What are the GRE expectations for poli sci programs? There doesn't seem to be any site that has a comprehensive list, or even averages across disciplines. Of course, GRE scores are just one of many factors considered in an application packet, but the test is the source of much stress for grad school applicants. Updat...

What the hell have I been doing this academic year? Monthly Archives: March 2008. March 3, 2008. You used to be able to use ‘apple h’ to hide a window on a Mac. The advantage was that you could ‘alt tab’ back to the window if you wanted. Today, ‘apple h’ stopped working. Why? Edited to add: It seems to work randomly. Firefox: OK. Mail and Yojimbo: not OK. M e m p h i s . c o o l. Southern manners with a healthy appreciation for dysfunction. Friday, July 09, 2004. What's it take to get on IMDB anyway? For about half a dozen reasons, I decided to look a little more closely at the world of film/videomaking. I've been taking some instruction, meeting new people and finding a low-grade adventure or two. Here's a recent account:. A shoot, an audition, then schooling. I did it backwards and it was almost over before it had begun. But what a ride it was. I stumbl...

brianjphillips: Iran in flames; media struggles to report
http://brianjphillips.blogspot.com/2009/06/iran-in-flames-media-struggles-to.html
Saturday, June 20, 2009. Iran in flames; media struggles to report. It's hard to determine what precisely is happening in Tehran, since foreign journalists are essentially not allowed to report, but the social media sources are producing a great deal of content. Some "old media" sources such as the NY Times are doing a decent job of aggregating content, such as they do on their Lede blog. Which has been updating all day. But the Times can't seem to keep up with sites such as the Huffington Post. Couldn't...

brianjphillips: North America as the new EU?
http://brianjphillips.blogspot.com/2005/12/north-america-as-new-eu_12.html
Monday, December 12, 2005. North America as the new EU? Could the U.S.-Canadian border and the U.S.-Mexican border disappear, to be replaced by more strict border controls at the edges of the continent? I say it's quite unlikely, at least in the next 20 years or so. In the Dec. 1 issue of the Economist, an article called "Living with number one" discusses Canada's relationship with the United States. (You can pay. And the like up in arms. It's been discussed on WorldNet Daily. Everyone loves globalizatio...
