July 2016 – Luke Meyer’s blog

http://blog.lukemeyer.me/2016/07

Luke Meyer’s blog. Every day I’m solderin’. Week 28 – RLDAQ. Digging a little deeper showed that the microcontroller also hangs sometimes when I connect and disconnect one of the I2C devices during operation. The hanging happens when the device is disconnected during I2C transaction – I suspect that Wire library is not implementing timeouts and it’s waiting for some kind of signal on I2C bus from the device. I switched to optiboot bootloader. Uploaded the sample code and woohoo! I’d like to start p...

Luke Meyer’s blog. Every day I’m solderin’. Electric mountainboard post #4 Electronics finished, software in progress. Hello, it’s been a while since my last update on Eboard project. Last time I wrote about mechanical part being more or less finished. Since then I focused my efforts on developing electronics and software. Electronics basically consists of three main parts: Drivers Unit, Battery Unit and Control Unit. To mount this board to deck I designed a simple “case” (no top yet). Debugging AVRs can...

Luke Meyer’s blog. Every day I’m solderin’. Past projects time – Digital thermometer. Hi, today I want to describe a project that I did in February 2014:. To measure outside temperature I used simple battery-powered thermometer. But as you can guess after some time the battery died and I decided to build a new thermometer from scratch. You may ask why I didn’t simply buy a new battery. I guess it was just too simple. To make the whole thing a bit more fun I recorded the process and made a timelapse:.

Too far gone. No way back. Jul 7, 2013. Howto: High Performance Applications in Node.js. Just Don't Do It. Any environment that requires you to explicitly define callbacks for. That's bullshit. Node's event-loop just replaces one problem with another; you might not have to explicitly handle threading, but now you have to explicitly define callbacks. Node is a side-step, rather than a step forward. When we choose platforms and languages, we should be looking for new abstractions which make it easier t...

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Scratch one off the career bucket list. August 18, 2014. Once in a lifetime will you get a perfect opportunity to make a headline out of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” lyrics. You’re stinking right I took advantage of mine. Oh, did I mention that I took a job on The Dallas Morning News’ sports desk. The events that led to this headline reaching hundreds of thousands were about the biggest streak of professional luck I’ve experienced. Another strike of luck...

Popular climate

Low-carbon capers and social shenanigans. Mdash; 1 comment. Cultural innovation and climate change. So it looks as though Copenhagen hasn’t worked. With everybody now looking to Bonn to give us something to be hopeful about, I’m wondering about how we’re addressing this. Worked, we would now have some legally binding framework that would lead to a high and rising price of carbon on a fairly sluggish timeline. We all agree that would have been better (pax sceptics) I’ll leave that alone. It’s import...
