Skip to main content. June 19, 2016. Black-necked cranes in Bhutan (Grus nigricollis) are winter visitors during late October to mid February to the Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey). They arrive from the Tibetan Plateau, where they breed in the summer. On arrival, they are said to circle the Gangteng Monastery three times as if practicing kora ("circumambulation"), and repeat this act as they begin their return to the Tibet Autonomous Region іn early spring. I tried to include photos in my blog that I thought were worth displaying for either esthetic or entertainment value!
