a sop in wyn: March 2005
http://frankeleynstale.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html
This has been a singularly strange week. As the diligent reader knows, I had to return to Texas to be with my grandmother who is dying. So, Tuesday and Wednesday, I spent a considerable amount of time sitting with her, and some time this morning. this sitting with has created an interesting context for a week of seeming contradictions. Ktl) The church is decked out in every kind of bright flower that we can muster and the incense is going wild. This trip I stayed with Merrin. At their home and really enj...

a sop in wyn: July 2005
http://frankeleynstale.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
The day is done. We had our cocktail party tonight. While we weren't able to have all the people we originally invited, the mix we had couldn't have been better. I ventured into uncharted culinary territory (i.e. baking) and made a lime curd tart that came out beautifully. Mad props to my home girl, Ina Garten. The limoncello was a hit and the other deserts were amazing. Laura brought phenomenal chocolate covered strawberries and an Italian rice cake that got rave reviews. That is to say. Be thou warned,.

a sop in wyn: i've seen the wurst of it
http://frankeleynstale.blogspot.com/2006/08/ive-seen-wurst-of-it.html
I've seen the wurst of it. The score is now Germany 3, Sloane 0. You see, I've been a vegetarian for four years. Knowing I was coming to Germany where finding vegetarian food (other than baked cheese, fried cheese and bread with cheese) is a challenge, I started eating fish again a few months ago. That was fine. I couldn't be quite the sanctimonious twit I was when I was strict ova-lacto veg, but then I could never muster the sanctimony to become a vegan either. So, yeah. About four days ago, I start...

Been to Aunt Catfish’s. January 27, 2009. Okay, so Friday at 6pm Rob tells me he wants to drive an hour up to Daytona to eat catfish at Aunt Catfish’s. I was all over that. It was spontaneous and I didn’t feel like cooking anyway. Plus it was a good reason to get out of the house. If you haven’t been to Aunt Catfish’s. We hadn’t been to Aunt Catfish’s in….about 7 years. And yummmm was it good! Version was VERY good and I enjoyed every bit of it. Our meal was definitely worth the hour drive up and back.

Sugar, come sit a spell. Enjoying the adventure that is life. Take me to Tillamook. April 21, 2015. April 21, 2015. Last weekend we decided to take advantage of the sunshine and unseasonable warmth with a drive up to Tillamook. The scenic drive took us a little over two hours. We made it to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Shortly after 11. I’ll share more about this fun experience in a separate post. After lunch at cheese heaven, we started on the Three Capes Scenic Route. We decided to head back to the ca...

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go to “Green Zone” training to learn more about the challenges and resources for student veterans and ASM’s. It was a great learning experience. Sugar, come sit a spell. Enjoying the adventure that is life. April 9, 2015. April 8, 2015. I have vague recollections of the flights I took as a youngster. The oldest memories are fuzzy fragments – seeing blue lights illuminating the runway at night, receiving a pair of wings just like the pilot’s, wishing I had a jar to catch some clouds…. Somewhere between the bumpy rides on puddle jumpers and adulthood, what was once magic became routine. Not an easy fix →. 3 thoughts on “ Regaining the magic. You ar...

Sugar, come sit a spell. Enjoying the adventure that is life. Oregon, so far. June 30, 2014. I’ve been in Corvallis for just over two weeks now. How am I feeling? I should say that I am very thankful to be working with such a nice group of people who are ready to assist and are very patient with my questions. Oh and don’t forget your reusable shopping bags if you think you might make a stop at any kind of store. Cherry plums and Marionberries, an Oregon speciality. On Saturday evening, I discovered the w...

Sugar, come sit a spell. Enjoying the adventure that is life. July 13, 2014. July 13, 2014. On Friday, I had the opportunity to sample some delicious new flavors. The first was the coconut oatmeal cookie created by Mennonite bakers. That is a delicious flavor combo. Overall, I prefer an oatmeal scotchie but the coconut oatmeal is not as rich, making it a better choice for summer. On Friday night, I sampled the bacon guacamole from Del Alma. Hazelnuts in my guac. Where is the good puzza in corvallis.
