Poem for a Wednesday. 1/800s, f/10.0, ISO 400, 30mm (HDR). As you set out for Ithaca. Hope that your journey is a long one,. Full of adventure, full of discovery. Laestrygonians and Cyclops,. Angry Poseidon-don’t be afraid of them:. You’ll never find things like that on your way. As long as you keep your thoughts raised high,. As long as a rare sensation. Touches your spirit and your body. Laestrygonians and Cyclops,. Wild Poseidon-you won’t encounter them. Unless you bring them along inside your soul,.
Pamhule Photography: Back to the Future: Nikon Df Impressions | Part I
http://blog.pamhule.com/2014/09/back-to-future-nikon-df-impressions.html
Back to the Future: Nikon Df Impressions Part I. 1/4000s, f/2.8, ISO 100, 55mm. Earlier this month, Nikon gave me a chance to try out the Nikon Df. Nikon’s new retro-style full-frame DSLR. The camera itself is beautiful, taking design cues from Nikon's 1970s-era FM film cameras. Images at ISO levels of up 25,000 maintain plenty of details and the noise is kept under control. The camera’s dynamic range (the ability to capture shadow and highlight details at the same time) is also exceptional....What se...

Divinipotent Daily: November 2014
http://divinipotent.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Dedicated to saving the endangered word "divinipotent". Saturday, November 15, 2014. The autumn leaves of 2014. Autumn came late to New York City this year, and perhaps because of the mild summer, it came strange. Trees that are normally mousy, like the oaks that generally turn brown, were on fire. The basswoods, which are usually my favorites, where monochromatic. So few leaves were on the ground that I asked my husband to come with me to grab a few from the trees. Basswood leaves most years. 2013: The ...

Last weekend I read an excerpt from Michael Hainey's new book, After Visiting Friends: A Son's Story. The title of the excerpt was "My dad: 35 and dead." You can read it here. Dad at my sister Betsy's wedding,. About six months before he died. Mind you, this is probably a false memory – science tells us that the act of remembering rewrites history....In any ...

My mother was a shy woman who grew up with three aggressive sisters and parents who didn't get along. But I don't think that's why her musical taste was so melancholy; it's just the way she was. Divinipotent Daily: Arts & Crafts: Color by Nature
http://divinipotent.blogspot.com/2010/11/arts-crafts-color-by-nature.html
Dedicated to saving the endangered word "divinipotent". Monday, November 15, 2010. Arts and Crafts: Color by Nature. When we were children, we would arrange autumn leaves and Crayola shavings between sheets of wax paper. Then we would iron the wax paper until the Crayola shavings melted and the sheets held together. When we were done, we would bring our waxy autumn leaf montages to school and hang them on the wall. It was a homework assignment. Would have seen this phenomenon as a kindred spirit, I think.

Wandering by the Way: Springing Forward
http://wanderingbytheway.blogspot.com/2011/04/springing-forward.html
Wandering by the Way. A blog about travel and other journeys too. Sunday, April 10, 2011. The bare stick-planted yards of a few weeks ago have been blossoming the last few days, and walking Susie around the neighborhod has become a pleasant stroll instead of a 30-degree chore. I'd never heard him sound cheerful and relaxed in English, so it was a real treat to hear him talk about school and his part-time job. Then he said, "I called because it has been a long time, and I will always call you because ...

Wandering by the Way: Astoria
http://wanderingbytheway.blogspot.com/2011/03/astoria.html
Wandering by the Way. A blog about travel and other journeys too. Tuesday, March 22, 2011. It's been amusing photographing what people here do with a small front yard. There are religious icons. Some are wild with growing things. While others are manicured or cemented. Susie likes the neighborhood well enough: Astoria Park is pretty big and there is plenty of room to run during off-leash hours. Congratulations on your new home and new neighbourhood! Glad to hear from you and your life again.

A blog from the author of Soup – A Kosher Collection and Passover – A Kosher Collection. I’m embarrassed to see how long it’s been since I’ve posted anything. Last time I posted, I said something about how I was going to start to (slowly) work on some new cookbooks. I did actually keep that promise, but then my world turned topsy-turvy. Not long after I posted, a family looking for a new location for their business came to look at Desserts Plus. Since moving our of our building 13 (! It’s got lots ...
