Myndins of Auld Reekie. Thoughts, photos, fancies and memories of Edinburgh. Wednesday, September 11, 2013. A visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens. Yesterday a dear friend and I went to the Botanical Gardens. Now, without further ado, the photos:. The view from the Botanics. Inverleith House, where they have art exhibits and such. The Tropical Palm House, a Victorian Hothouse built in 1834. Inside the Palm House. A bridge over the Water of Leith, not in the Botanics but nearby. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

First up, last month I attended the Hopetoun Town and Country Fair at Hopetoun House. The Firth of Forth from Society Road which runs along the shore.

Myndins of Auld Reekie. Thoughts, photos, fancies and memories of Edinburgh. Sunday, December 14, 2014. For St. Andrew's Day, we decided to view Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots and home to the Royal Stewarts. It has some lovely sculptural decoration still extant and most of the walls are still intact. You can climb to the top of the watchtower and see stunning views of Linlithgow Loch which stretches beside the castle. The entranceway to the Palace. Detail from the fountain.

Myndins of Auld Reekie. Thoughts, photos, fancies and memories of Edinburgh. Saturday, April 6, 2013. It appears that I have failed to update this blog for over three months now, and I apologize. It's not that I have done nothing, merely that I have been remiss at writing here. I expect that I will be trying more pies in the future as the leftovers pile up. Below are a collection of photos from various walks and journeys. Check the captions for details. The City Observatory atop Calton Hill. A view of Le...

Myndins of Auld Reekie. Thoughts, photos, fancies and memories of Edinburgh. Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Anyway, if I stop to comment on all the photos, I'll be here all day and never actually get around to posting them, so here they are, without comment, photos from a trip to Leeds and York. Naturally, the first and last few photos were taken from the train. Links to this post. Location: York, York, York, UK. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Myndins of Auld Reekie. Thoughts, photos, fancies and memories of Edinburgh. Friday, February 21, 2014. The Secrets of Rosslyn Chapel. Last Sunday we made another day trip, this time out to the village of Roslin. On the outskirts of Edinburgh to see Rosslyn Chapel. You may recognise the name if you've read The Da Vinci Code. Unfortunately they will not allow photos to be taken inside the chapel (suspicious, no? So I only have images from the outside. Both the inside and outside are highly decorated i...

Myndins of Auld Reekie. Thoughts, photos, fancies and memories of Edinburgh. Friday, April 11, 2014. Pine Lake and Carnforth in Lancashire. We arrived via train from Edinburgh, via Lancaster, at Carnforth, a lovely little town with some nice quirkiness to it. The train station itself was where David Lean filmed A Brief Encounter. In 1945. There is a nice little cafe. And the heritage centre. There is devoted to the film, as well as trains in general. Carnforth is also home to the Carnforth Bookshop.
