지극히 한국인이어서 한글을 이렇게도 술술 써 내려간다,. 적응하는데 시간이 걸렸고 적응해서도 방황은 끝이 없는듯하다,. 그러나 이건 모두 다 보기 좋은 핑계일 뿐이다,. 나는 그냥 삶이 버거울 뿐이다. 한국이든 미국이든, 네가 존재하는 그 어느 곳이든 삶이 버거울 뿐이다,. 오랜 친구와 기울이는 술잔들이 눈물나게 감사하다. 한때는 사랑했던 사람이 이제는 삶을 인생을 논할 수 있는 허울없는 사이가 된 것, 이것 또한 삶의 일부 이겠지. 쓰지만 단, 달지만 쓴 인생,. 감사하지만, 달고 쓰다,. 이렇게 솔직한 이 순간을 후회할 내일이 오겠지, ㅎㅎ. 삶, 이 우주가 나를 미소 짓게 한다. 역시 넌 나보다 한수 위야. 언제나 그렇듯 늘 그렇게,. 허무에 빠지는 건 내 탓은 아니다,. 살아가며 우리가 잡고 있는 많은 것들에 의미를 찾을 수 없을 때 찾아오는 자연스러운 현상이다. 누구나,. 그것이 어찌 그리 의미가 있으랴? 무엇을 쫓고 지켜야 되는 걸까,. 모두가 그리 살다 가니. 그저 가볍게 한껏 놀다 가면 될 것을,. 그리 무거울 필요가 있는가,. 너무나 많은 것들을 이곳에 남기고 있는 것 같다. 애초부터 존재하지 않았던 인공의 것들,. 하나의 건물이 덜 지어지고 하나의 예술작품이 덜 만들어진들. 이 우주가 꿈쩍이나 할런지,. 나부터 이곳에 belong하지 않는 너무나 많은 것들을 남기고 있다. 내 책상 위에는 결혼 청첩장, 환갑 초대장, 그리고 불안해 하면서도 아직 답장 못한 편지들이 있다. 나는 힘에 겹게 친교를 갖고 있는 것 같다. 칵테일 파티에서 안면이 좀 있는 사람이 옆에 서 있는 여자를 나에게 소개한다. 미스"하고 머뭇거리면, 그 여자는 눈으로 또 다른 사람에게 인사를 하면서 "김이에요"하고 웃는다. 그리고 그 여자는 나하고 조금 이야기하다가 다른 사람을 알은체하러 가 버린다. 나는 뉴욕 미술관에서 수백이 넘는 그림을 하루에 본 일이 있다. 그런데 지금 회상할 수 있는 그림은 하나도 없다. 그 중에 몇 폭만을 오래오래 감상하였더라면 그것들은 내 기억 속에 귀한 재산으로 남았을 것을. . 애석한 일이다. 이 세상에는 책이 너무 많다. 학문을 하는 사람에게는 전문분야의 책만 해도 바로 억압을 느낄 지경이요, 참고 문헌만 보아도 곧 숨이 막힐 것 같다. 수많은 명저 名著,.
