Learning, and assessing, collaboratively: Group Exams. December 29, 2014. I am one of many who are convinced that people learn better in collaboration with others. However, there’s always this somewhat disturbing schizophrenia when it comes to assessment — we spend all this time emphasizing group work and collaboration, but come exam time — it’s everyone for him or herself. Using clickers in small classes
http://blog.sciencegeekgirl.com/2015/03/14/using-clickers-in-small-classes
Using clickers in small classes. March 14, 2015. As more instructors are trying clickers and peer instruction in their courses, I get more questions about how to use them in small classes. I’d like to share a few things I’ve learned through talking with faculty who teach courses of various sizes. The first question I ask is, what do you mean by small? Is peer instruction useful in small classes? How can clicker questions be helpful? Increased the chance students did the required reading. Students became ...

Friday, June 27, 2008. The phoenix science team has said that after the gas analysis on a soil sample lifted from the surface of Mars, It has all the right ingredients to successfully grow Asparagus! Yay - So we can live on Asparagus when we eventually colonise Mars. Might be a bit of a boring diet! Seriously though. The soil samples revealed that they would be hospitable but of course, the rest of the environment certainly isn't. Phoenix is such a magnificent achievement. Links to this post. Skype : bec...

Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Big Brother is watching you! I recently visited the US. To enter the country, you have to have your picture and fingerprints taken at the border. Tuesday, October 07, 2008. Arrival of a Gattaca styled world. But wait. We select Valids everyday (BBC News). The Invalids line the incinerator rooms of hospitals. Those that have been deemed to not be worthy of our love and affection and terminated just because they will need extra care or they don't conform to what Society suggests is acceptable. They won't make a massive contribution to our future. They will drain resources from an already overstretched social system. Links to this post. 8221; award ...
