the wild web: October 2012
http://blog.sidstamm.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Thoughts on web privacy and security ]. Thursday, October 11, 2012. Ownership and transparency in social media. You don’t own the spaces you inhabit on Facebook. You’re enjoying a party at someone’s house, and you barely know the guy. In fact, your content is the currency that pays for the booze (ie. the privilege of using their servers). That’s why it’s free-as-in-beer. This system is flexible, crazy, complex, shiny and distracting! Can I use it to video chat with my friends? Posted by Sid Stamm. Would ...

http://blog.sidstamm.com/2012/03/making-dnt-easier-for-web-sites.html
Thoughts on web privacy and security ]. Monday, March 12, 2012. Making DNT easier for web sites. Has done some analysis about the effect of turning on Do Not Track in your browser, and his findings show that sites in general are slow to show that they support the feature. As it stands, only 4 out of 482 measured top 500 sites are actively responding to the DNT header being sent.". Apparently it was a lot of work to get DNT supported properly in mod cookietrack, a native browser module that performs well ...

the wild web: December 2012
http://blog.sidstamm.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Thoughts on web privacy and security ]. Thursday, December 27, 2012. Often times when I find myself in a conversation about Privacy, there's a lack of clarity around what exactly we're discussing. It's widely accepted that people who are experts on privacy all speak the same language and have the same goals. I'm not so sure this is true. This came up in a discussion with Jishnu. Is the ability for an individual to have transparency, choice, and control over information about themselves. Over collection, ...

http://blog.sidstamm.com/2013/03/who-uses-password-manager.html
Thoughts on web privacy and security ]. Wednesday, March 06, 2013. Who uses the password manager? Who uses the password manager, and why? My colleague Monica Chew tries to answer these questions and more by measuring password manager use. Check out her blog post. Posted by Sid Stamm. Security and Privacy Educator and Technologist. We'd been in our starter house for nine years, and I checked Zillow.com, and something went "click" in my brain. If I wanted to live somewhere better with more space, it would be because I upgraded this house and got rid of a bunch of stuff. Things do not ma...

I think most people agree the FBI should have the data. Bill Gates made a statement. Have access to the data on Farook's iPhone? The court asks apple to provide a tool that will only.

On hacking and startups. I may be moving to Medium. Monday, June 26, 2017. I first heard of GO-JEK toward the end of March 2015, from a VC firm we had close ties with. January 03, 2015. STDIN inputs via Sublime Text (sort of). I love Sublime Text. I really do. I can put a ring on it if it had any corporeal form. I’ve been using it so much, that trying to work on anything else is kind of a pain. And yet, when dealing with STDIN inputs, the magic falters. This method describes a workaround to give inputs without a prompt. August 18, 2014. Simplify browsing through a proxy. July 18, 2014. Customizing the Dev Environment. 2015 Sid Verma.
