Suzanne Kavanagh: March 2011
http://suzannekavanagh.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thoughts on publishing and other stuff. Saturday, 26 March 2011. The Island by Victoria Hislop. I first heard about The Island. While on honeymoon. We were staying at The Blue Palace. It's a stunning location, with rooms scattered around a beautiful blue bay overlooking the island of Spinalonga. Has a complex and fascinating history for such a small island. It was occupied by various people: from Arabs. To Venetians, Ottomans. To the Leper colony. An enjoyable - but not perfect - summer read. A flaneur i...

ROOM by Emma Donoghue | Reading reflections in the Bookinglass
https://bookinglass.wordpress.com/2012/02/22/room-by-emma-donoghue
Reading reflections in the Bookinglass. An expat with a love of fiction. ROOM by Emma Donoghue. It has been a few months since I ending up sitting down and finishing. Not that it was a huge effort to finish, but I found the first half of the book much more gripping that the latter half. What I remember most about this book now is how I imagined Room, the one in which Jack and his Ma, live. Take for example, Eggsnake, a toy made of empty eggshells strung along a piece of thread, who. OK, maybe job hunting...

An Introvert’s Weekend in Berlin | Reading reflections in the Bookinglass

Reading reflections in the Bookinglass. An expat with a love of fiction. An Introvert’s Weekend in Berlin. This slideshow requires JavaScript. The Berlin that is famous for all-weekend parties and underground art scenes, hipsters. I spent Friday evening on an urgent trip to the 24 hour Apotheke (I know, pharmacy, just doesn’t sound as cool) at the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). There was probably a closer one, but I love the Hauptbahnhof and I could travel on the new Ubahn line. And bam, there it is!

Being an ATCK | Reading reflections in the Bookinglass
https://bookinglass.wordpress.com/2011/11/03/being-atck
Reading reflections in the Bookinglass. An expat with a love of fiction. There is no escaping the label Third Culture Kid (TCK); I am a grown-up one. I would be in good company if more people knew that President Obama is one too. An Adult Third Culture Kid (ATCK) is an ugly term that means I have grown up in cultures not that of my parents. I have thought for a while that it was best to ignore my rootless conundrum and avoided probing too deeply into the difference it makes to my adult life. 8220;I am wo...

Cunning Cat | Reading reflections in the Bookinglass

Reading reflections in the Bookinglass. An expat with a love of fiction. I was in the middle of reading a description of a suicide scene. This reminds me of a TED talk I watched about the intelligence of crows. It is fascinating stuff, if you have a spare 20 minutes I recommend it. Anyone else have a crazy and cunning animal story? Suzanne Kavanagh: November 2013
http://suzannekavanagh.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thoughts on publishing and other stuff. Sunday, 10 November 2013. Chalet Le Cabri: a new Morzine retreat. Chalet Le Cabri and Tane Le Chien. With snow. I'm lucky. One of my best mates runs a chalet business in the French Alps. I know, it's tough, but someone has to go and see her. Angela and Damian always look after us when we go over there and now their company, Morzine Retreats. Is launching a brand new chalet. Chalet Le Cabri has spectacular views across the valley. The view. Not bad, eh? I'm particul...
