Silicon Adventure: Japan - JR Pass

http://blog.steveparkinson.org/2010/12/japan-jr-pass.html

Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Japan - JR Pass. Japan's principal rail operator is 'JR' - Japan Rail. It's a little confusing since it's actually a group of 7 regional companies. There are also many other private railways. As a tourist, the best thing to do is to buy a JR pass. You can find more information on that site, but the quick summary is:. It's about $300 for a 7-day 'Ordinary' adult ticket. There were always seats available in the Ordinary cars, so it's not necessary to buy the Green ticket. Once y...

Silicon Adventure: What I've Learned

http://blog.steveparkinson.org/2011/05/what-ive-learned.html

Friday, May 6, 2011. I spent most of my career doing web applications and computer security work for Netscape, AOL, and Red Hat in Java. Unfortunately, it was not a website, rather a packaged application that users buy and install on their own webserver. This kind of distribution model is troublesome to support because the customers may be running very old versions of the product, and they have to be supported for a long time. So, with PHP the language choice, what frameworks are available?

http://blog.steveparkinson.org/2010/12/japan-using-fuji-hakone-pass.html

Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Japan - Using the Fuji Hakone Pass. More details about the package we got are on the Odakyu Travel website. You can buy the ticket directly from the travel agent in Shunjuku station. It costs about $70 per person (adult). You'll get a map, and the ticket that you'll have to show every time you get on a bus or train. The bus takes about 2 hours, and it makes one or two stops along the way, but we got off at Kawaguchiko station. Number X or bus stop. We should have asked for t...
