Generally Unorthodox: Distracting Worship
http://generallyunorthodox.blogspot.com/2010/05/distracting-worship.html
Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Friday, May 14, 2010. I've been thinking about corporate worship times a lot, and wondering what is more important when it comes to leading worship: striving for excellence, or striving for inclusiveness. But what does one do, for instance, when someone who really cannot sing, but really aspires to, and has a genuine heart for worship, wants to be part of your worship leading team? Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Tuesday, August 29, 2006. Separation Of Church and State. CNN: Rep. Harris: Church-state separation 'a lie'. I am not endorsing this representative, but I would like to say that in many ways she is absolutely right! Our understanding of the separation of church and state is very inaccurate! What our founding fathers intended, and the reason they left Europe in the first place, was that government would not have a say in the area of religion.

Generally Unorthodox: September 2009

Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. The most disturbing thing about the red light district of Amsterdam, to me, is not that prostitution merely happens—it happens in every city of the world—but the public view of the red light district. It is seen as a wonderful expression of personal freedom. It is seen as a utopia of sexuality. Today the red light district is like a carnival. Every day hundreds of tourists come through the red light district, often with ...

Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Saturday, August 08, 2009. Here are some of the things God taught me as I spent last week in Germany with Tania visiting her family. They live in a beautiful area in the middle of nowhere, on land owned by a rich German count. We had to watch Tania's nephew and niece while their parents were away. I realized that in a relative way, I act the same with God. I’m stubborn, I don’t listen, I keep doing what I know I’m not supposed to, an...This is what really...

Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Sunday, January 14, 2007. The earth is the Lord's and everything in it." Psalm 24:1. The earth is the Lord's and everything in it.". In Genesis it explains that God created EVERYTHING and called it good. And so I think that everything is holy! Dark themes of music, dark colors, they all come from God, and they all express different facets of his infinite character. There is nothing new under the sun which does not have its uttermost source in God. Mus...

Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Wednesday, October 06, 2010. Greater The Gap, Greater The Bridge. The cross of Jesus Christ keeps getting bigger and bigger. I've been meditating on this for quite a while now after a pastor in our church gave a message from Galatians. I found it profound, and want to share it. In other words our understanding- our realization- of the gap. That separates us from God continues to grow. This seems like an unpleasant scenario! Of Jesus Christ so amazing.

Generally Unorthodox: December 2014

Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Well, I happen to know some arranged-married-couples who would argue otherwise. But actually I'm not here to write about marriage; I only planned on talking about passion and commitment. Strange, how did marriage come up? Yesterday, I asked on Twitter: "Does commitment follow from passion, or does passion result from commitment? As you work towards something for years, gain specialized knowledge about a topic, and become an e...

Generally Unorthodox: May 2009

Thoughts and discussions on faith related topics. Sunday, May 31, 2009. People tend to think of faith and doubt as mutually exclusive. It is typically said that one either "has faith" (in or for something) or they are "doubting". In this way of thinking, faith is reduced to a state of mind. I would define faith differently. I would even say that faith requires the presence of doubt. Faith is not just a state of mind, but an act of will, which by definition requires exercising. When faced with doubt.
