Texas photochick

Tuesday, July 10, 2012. This shot pushes the ISO settings on my Canon 50D. It's also hand held. ISO 6400, f/1.8, 1/60. I think the biggest thing that has helped me when I shoot in low light is not to think about how dark it is but rather look at the light that is there. See how you can use that. This one is the same settings, same location, same kid, same camera, same lens but was shot 2 years earlier. Ok, but what about even darker stuff? I said you can get similar shots with a point and shoot, right?

Friday, July 6, 2012. Baby you're a firework. Went to my brother-in-law's house out in the sticks where it's legal to shoot off fireworks. Before dark Hyper Boy played some Xbox with his cousin. Well, sort of cousin. My brother-in-law's wife's sister's son. Cousin works, right? They played online the night before for the first time and became fast friends, hugging when they met in person. we hadn't been out there in 2 years, so the boys didn't really know each other. Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Working on a black and white project. I have to say, taking your son to a park in camo face paint with a bunch of toy weapons does get you some strange looks. Hyper Boy, who loves all things related to the military, loved getting into the role of a commando. If you have a problem with kids and toy guns, you might not want to look at this post. Part of my inspiration for this set of shots is a Diane Arbus image. You can see it here. Now for what I shot. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tuesday, December 13, 2011. OK, so the semester just finished and I had a final project due. This project was different because I actually had a theme. It wasn't scattered or random, but an honest to goodness theme. And it was actually a decent one for a change. I totally abused the heck out of Bear for this project. But really, he was kind of the inspiration. It started with this image that I did for a color of light project. 65279; and that made it a project. And I finished out with this.

Friday, November 4, 2011. Five months since the last blog post. Wow. Ok. Slacker much? We went to the Street n' Treat downtown. Interesting and a differnet experience, but kind of a let down when it came to the candy haul. Here's the visuals. Dancer girl recycled her Cheshire Cat costume from the spring concert. This poor lady was hard at work still. And this guy could probably use a break. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I'm a mom, wife and photographer. in that order. View my complete profile.

Monday, May 7, 2012. It's not the camera. You know, I say all the time that it's the photographer. That you can push even the most basic cameras pretty far if you know how. And I hear all the time from other photographers that you must have a DSLR to shoot in low light. I strongly disagree with that. A few posts back I ranted about the absurdity that they wouldn't allow cameras with "interchangeable lenses" into the Big D NYE event. This is from that night. It's so not the camera you use..
