Tim's blog

Weeknotes: 29th July - 5th August 2015. We also briefly discussed one of the more interesting (to my mind) research applications of the technology - providing data on the personal. Of a piece of information (the path a user took to discover it) for the purposes of information refinding - Filip was very interested in this, which was most encouraging. I also submitted the (hopefully) final set of revisions to our research ethics application and await a decision! In other news, I started using Spacemacs.

Why I am supporting Jeremy Corbyn for Labour Leader · Tim's blog

http://blog.timcowlishaw.co.uk/2015/07/26/why-i-am-supporting-jeremy-corbyn-for-labour-leader

Why I am supporting Jeremy Corbyn for Labour Leader. I’m absolutely thrilled to bits that Walthamstow CLP voted to give our supporting nomination for the Labour leadership to Jeremy Corbyn. On Saturday. Due to some procedural irregularities, not everyone who wanted to speak in support of a candidate had a chance to do so. If I had done, here is what I would have said:. Rather than simply making a case for how he will win a general election, he’s powerfully and plainly outlined. He would want to do so, and.

Weeknotes: 22nd July - 29th July 2015. This was my first full week back from holiday, but it didn’t take too long for me to get back into the swing of things! We had a chat with John. My second supervisor about this, as he works in the Human-Computer Interaction department. To provide a library of standard UI elements, as it would be to do the same in something like Balsamiq. And allows me to quickly prototype a broader set of interactions than could be done with a standard wireframing tool. This was...

Weeknotes: 15th - 21st June 2015. Most of this week I spent trying to condense my thoughts on my general research direction into a more formal proposal that explains the motivation for my own work and its place in relation to the published literature. As part of this, I revisited some of the papers that I’d encountered during my literature review which had most shaped my direction thus far - in particular Siân Lindley’s work. As well as Lindley’s later work on time and technology. Conversation between Ge...

Our politics is utopian or it is nothing · Tim's blog

http://blog.timcowlishaw.co.uk/2015/06/15/our-politics-is-utopian-or-it-is-nothing

Our politics is utopian or it is nothing. It’s not often that I find anything Boris Johnson says to be particularly prescient or remarkable, but his denouncement of “Left-wing misery-guts”. Within a risible bit of shilling for TTIP, with which I fervently disagree) struck a nerve. Writes eloquently about how a Labour party which campaigns in the style of Harold Wilson’s ‘moral crusade’ might well alienate many of those it seeks to represent. Even though her statement that “most people want [&hellip...

Tim's Melbourne Blog | For what it's worth…

Tim's Melbourne Blog. For what it's worth…. What this blog if for. MIFF 2015 – Gulpilil Shorts. Starring: David Gulpilil, Tommy Lewis, Richard Birrinbirrin, Mary Dhapalany, Frances Djulibing, Jamie Gulpilil. I enjoyed that there were spiritual and other worldly elements involved in this movie, but they were more touches to the film and helped emphasise when something had a special significance such as the fire trail left by the crocodile, the flaming billabong, the glowing stone and the crocodile attack ...

Hacking's Fun!

Thoughts and lessons learned from hacking. Thursday, November 14, 2013. One interesting problem we had to solve while building Blippy. This solution in its current implementation seems to handle the tradeoffs reasonably. Sharing is snappy (with the exception of 100 frame GIFs and only when iMessage is involved) and there are fewer moving parts client-side (always a good thing ;). There are still optimizations to be made, but the current implementation gets the job done in a timely matter.

PHP Readline Auto Completion. On May 23, 2012. Comments Off on PHP Readline Auto Completion. As your application gets more complex, you may find a need to work with the auto completion register in different ways. There are 3 ways that you might want to create your own auto complete functions, and Iâll show you a quick example of how each of the them would work. The first, and easiest way is to use a normal function. Take the following example:. Auto completion with readline is really that simple. This...
