Monthly Archives: May 2013. May 16, 2013. Recently we had an opportunity to try out the Freedom No Pull Harness by Wiggles, Wags and Whiskers. Click on image to see harness up close. Fit: Comfortably snug , yet flexible enough to allow appropriate pressure on chest reducing tug force at the neck that can close off air way. If one also uses redirection in training it all pairs up quite well covering all bases. Yep, overall I am “liken” it! Squirrel tested and Kai approved. Animal behavior and Health.

Monthly Archives: March 2014. March 12, 2014. Canine Leaps of Faith. Assumptions and Impulse Control. This weekend proved peculiar when one of my training friends decided to hike off leash with her super herding dog. This time around the adventure resulted in a big scare after they decided to take a detour walking over a smaller overpass on a new route home in an unfamiliar area. Although reported cases appear to be few and far between, it certainly deflates the myth that all dogs have space relation und...

Monthly Archives: June 2013. June 21, 2013. Adventures on the East Coast. VT is very green and dog friendly. One could consider it an eastern version of the mountainous upper elevations in forested New Mexico. Lots of historic homes and barn architecture… Nice to see elements of the past cherished and preserved as part of VT culture. The above photo is a nice example of a paint washed saltbox home, typical of the northern east coast. Here is a view from the peak. Yes, mother nature also paints paisley on...

Monthly Archives: April 2013. April 30, 2013. Art in Context – Photographing a black dog. Photographing black dogs is a challenge we are working through. Often a great expression and soulful eyes appear dull and hazy because the black fur soaks up all the light and in compensation the lens overexposes. When this happens it results in a background that becomes an illuminating halo and fur that is muted to gray. In our household sunrise generally does not instill a good picture taking mood, as all dogs hav...
