Sandpiper's Thoughts: A Fruitful Faith
http://sandpipersthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-fruitful-faith.html
Tuesday, June 02, 2015. I taught Bible Study on Sunday evening. The lesson was based on grace. It seems that people can accept that grace is a free gift, but then get stuck in James' writing: "Faith without works is dead.". What does this mean? Does it mean that we really MUST do good works to earn salvation? Does God really count the "stars in our crowns? Or are we missing an important link? Posted by Kim at 10:08 AM. Sandpiper's Thoughts: Both/And Faith
http://sandpipersthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/06/bothand-faith.html
Monday, June 08, 2015. A paragraph from Adam Hamilton's book, Revival. Do you have a "both/and" faith? Do you recognize the importance of both a personal walk with Christ and a gospel that is lived out by good works? Do you seek to love God with your mind, your heart, and your strength? Does your faith reflect both sides of the gospel? Do we grow in holiness and yet ignore the hungry? Do we visit the sick and yet have no relationship with God? What is your weaker side? Posted by Kim at 9:04 AM. When the ...

August 11, 1737. Thursday, 11.—Mr. Causton came to my house and, among many other sharp words, said: “Make an end of this matter; thou hadst best. My niece to be used thus! I have drawn the sword and I will never sheath it till I have satisfaction.”. 8220;To Mrs. Sophia Williamson. 8220;At Mr. Causton’s request, I write once more. The rules whereby I proceed are these:. 8220;If you offer yourself at the Lord’s table on Sunday, I will advertise you (as I have done more than once) wherein you have do...

The Dangers of Social Conscience. Curse you NPR. The more I listen to NPR, the more I feel convicted to change my stewardship habits. I'm talking about stewardship beyond just giving money to my church, which is something that I've already been feeling challenged to increase. The jury is still out on that one. But when...

Life and Love and Why: Re:Viewing Confirmation

Life and Love and Why. All of your hoping and all of your searching for what? Ask me for what am I living and what gives me strength that I'm willing to die for? Saturday, March 31, 2012. If you did not grow up in the church (or maybe even if you did), Confirmation may seem like a strange name for a youth program. Who is doing the confirming when we talk about confirmation? Does God send down a sacred confirmation email saying, Yup, this person has been baptized by water and the spirit? Next year's Re:Vi...

Sandpiper's Thoughts: The Via Media
http://sandpipersthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-via-media.html
Monday, May 11, 2015. I'm reading Adam Hamilton's book, Revival. I taught Sunday school last weekend, and the lesson touched on the troubling problem of Church division - from arguments in the church whether about when to wash the tablecloths to how to be inclusive of all of God's children. How do we avoid the division and strife that these arguments can create, while at the same time not ignoring challenging theological issues that need to be addressed? Do we find the truth each person possesses? Advent...
