Blogging the Imagination: Too much of a pink thing
http://bloggingtheimagination.blogspot.com/2015/05/too-much-of-pink-thing.html
Musings on photography, science, technology and culture. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Too much of a pink thing. Rhododendron blooms in the natural light of this morning's "golden hour." Composed from a 15-shot focus stack. I normally like to process with LAB color (picture #1), but this time I thought that a straight RGB image (picture #2) was easier on the eyes. Musings on photography, science, technology and culture. Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Last night, I stood guard by the butterfly bush, hoping to catch a feeder. It was a qualified success. The Eastern tiger swallowtail ( Papilio glaucus. Lives only about two weeks as an adult, and it looks as if this one has already slipped past his due date. What a sad little butterfly. So, when nature gives you beat up lemons, you take closeups and crop to avoid the sorry blemishes. Here's a song to go with the two shots.

Musings on photography, science, technology and culture. Monday, December 29, 2014. The Olloclip Macro 3-in-1. Lens kit is something that Santa gave me this year. I haven't had a lot of time to explore its capabilities, but it looks like something that I can have fun with. Here's something that I shot with it last night:. My best guess is that this is a male Nursery web spider ( Pisaurina mira. Lurking on my basement wall. Another feature of the Olloclip is that it covers the flash. This isn't too bi...
Blogging the Imagination: Forks of Cheat
http://bloggingtheimagination.blogspot.com/2014/11/forks-of-cheat.html
Musings on photography, science, technology and culture. Monday, November 3, 2014. Sunday, November 2. Turned out to be a crisp fall day with minimum cloud cover. It was late afternoon by the time that I got to the Forks of Cheat, a place I hadn't visited for a couple of years. By then, the sun was fairly low, casting long shadows across the field behind the Forks of Cheat Baptist church. This shot was at 17mm, my wide-angle max. Location: 2911 Stewartstown Road, Morgantown, WV 26508, USA.

View from the Back Seat. In economics, a frequent disclaimer used in forecasting is “. 8221; or “with everything else the same.” It means that the forecast is based on the assumption that there are no changes in any variables over the span of the forecast except the one variable being examined. Everything else remains precisely the same. Using that Latin disclaimer is really all that separates economic forecasts from other forms of blind guesswork. Bluffs. In fact, everything else. Archive for October, 2014. Friday, October 24th, 2014. There have recently been articles in the press about new findings regarding King Tut, which are being heavily promoted in advance of a BBC broadcast of a documentary about the research. (By the way, the research that led to the “new findings” in the documentary was actually published 4 years ago. However, now that someone needs some buzz for a televised documentary, the findings are “new.”). Spindler and a clique of his colleagues, who create an orga...

Blogging the Imagination
Musings on photography, science, technology and culture. Monday, March 12, 2018. Saturday proved to be beautiful day, but I hardly had the chance to get out and shoot any pictures. I did manage to get this panorama of Morgantown, as seen from the University Towne Center behind the Sams Club. Colors are still drab. This picture doesn't have a lot going for it, but it provides a nice view of the Coliseum and the Evansdale campus. It's a BIG valley in this shot. Here's a closer view that I like better:.

Saturday, November 12, 2011. There's No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. A couple of weeks ago I had this great marketing idea. My client, Sears, was looking for ways to drive traffic into their new Sears Home Appliance Showrooms. My idea was to blitz the market with radio and TV commercials driving to a “street fair” in the parking lot of the store. About an hour into the event, the guy I hired to. Carry signs along the street came back to the store dejected. 8220;Go get lunch,” I yelled to passers by. 8220;...
