Blogging the opera

Wednesday, October 22, 2008. After the ball is over. Carmen closed two days ago. I’m both somewhat blue and somewhat frantic. Blue because the show is over. There’s something about being so focused on a goal. It makes me feel so alive – especially when I’m working with such a wonderful group of people. I miss them. I haven’t seen you much this week.” You don’t hear that often from a 13 year old. Monday, October 20, 2008. Once again, we were called to the theater about 2 hours before the show. People ...

Blogging the opera: Once more, with feeling

http://bloggingtheopera.blogspot.com/2008/10/once-more-with-feeling.html

Sunday, October 12, 2008. Once more, with feeling. Unfortunately, Anna, our Micaëla, could not be there today. That was a loss. I can’t speak for anyone else, but today the chorus parts definitely felt better than yesterday. This on-stage action is warming up. I saw a lot on new stuff happening, and played a lot of new things myself – especially the new business Marie and I worked out in act 1. 8221; she asked. I’ll admit that it’s sometimes a problem. One thing I’ve not yet mentioned is that we si...

Blogging the opera: Stay in Character

http://bloggingtheopera.blogspot.com/2008/10/stay-in-character.html

Thursday, October 16, 2008. By shiangtai, a member in the chorus. As Eric has pointed out in some of the earlier postings, it is important to stay in your character in a show. The principals all have their specific roles to fill. However, as Eric pointed out, there is the difficulty for a chorus member to assume a character. Who am I? Did Marco Polo (1254 – 1324) bring back some Chinese servants or soldiers to Europe? Is there any trace that they left any descendants in Spain? Who does not like that?

Blogging the opera: Lunch and E-Mail

http://bloggingtheopera.blogspot.com/2008/10/lunch-and-e-mail.html

Sunday, October 12, 2008. From Shiangtai, a member of the chorus. Because of my e-mail problems, my last posted blog was about an event a few days earlier. This one is about the day after that, not today when we had an afternoon rehearsal. Yes, a lot. Among that group of friends, many are music lovers. I simply missed the chance to tell them how wonderful our Carmen production would be. Well, I just have to tell them by e-mail. Mes amis, my friends! Toreador, en garde! Blogging the opera: The eye of the storm

http://bloggingtheopera.blogspot.com/2008/10/eye-of-storm.html

Monday, October 13, 2008. The eye of the storm. As I mentioned in my last post, we did not have rehearsal today. That’s unusual, although I’m sure the rest did everyone good. I don’t know how the others spent their evening, but here’s how I spent mine. I spent the rest of the evening prepping for tomorrow. I checked my makeup kit. Everything was in good shape, but I had to run out and buy some moisten wipes, which I use to help take off the makeup. I spent some time reviewing my music, but that was a sec...

Blogging Theodicy | Solving the problem of evil in the twenty-first century

Solving the problem of evil in the twenty-first century. Little Black Boy….really? To start this blog off on an entertaining note, I will begin with a personal anecdote:. That being said, the thought never crossed my mind that “Huh. I was put on this Earth to absorb sunlight, and that’s exactly what I will do with my dark skin! This is just one of the theories I summarized from reading from this poem. I’m sure it can also be a sweet children’s story of how a boy finds solace in his race. Give It a Day.
