greyblazeragainblogging: November 2012

Subscribe in a reader. Wednesday, November 7, 2012. We have to talk about Pat Cummins. With legs and heart pumping, arms moving at the speed of knots; a firebrand fast bowler bowls a super suburn Onyx missile to send the stumps of the batsman cartwheeling. The next man about to take guard, shudders with fear by imagining a fast bowler steaming in like the bullet train CRH380A and smashing his head with a 90mph thunderbolt. Am I going to write a 200 page essay on fast bowling? So, is Cummins too fragile?

Subscribe in a reader. Saturday, December 22, 2012. Uncle Duncan Fletcher (Part -2). As I said in Part 1 of the article that I would also have a look at Uncle Duncan Fletcher. The Indian cricket team under him have bombed on away tours and recently even at home, the so called revenge series turned bitter as India were defeated by England 2-1. Fletch had his flaws too. During the Ashes 06/07 debacle, he was very stubborn as in-spite of Giles being troubled by injuries and lack of form, he continued to...

Subscribe in a reader. Saturday, June 23, 2012. The puzzling case of Owais Shah. Fourteen years. The number of years that have gone by, since a man all of 19 years gave England their first taste of a World cup victory in cricket. People may think, I must have gone crazy to even imagine England winning a fifty over World Cup tournament. Maybe the victory came in some dreamland, where everything you touch turns into gold? So fourteen years on, where is the young prodigy? Owais Shah's critics will invariabl...

greyblazeragainblogging: Performance of defending champs??

Subscribe in a reader. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Performance of defending champs? ICC please don't host another tournament in the subcontinent. Before any cricket fan from the subcontinent pounces on me like a tiger, let me clarify, I'm just imagining the plight of England's cricketers after all those catastrophic, or ruinous defeats in the subcontinent. The major decision was regarding out of form Kieswetter. I don't have a problem with either Kieswetter, or even Lumb opening the batting. I wo...The p...

The Full Toss Cricket Blog. Full on debate about English cricket. England’s worst ever XI. December 31, 2012. That unmistakeably rich baritone voice, like listening to a glass of mulled wine. Neither quite South African, nor Australian, nor English, but a blend of the three. Those trenchant, often ridiculous catchphrases, delivered with his unique combination of gravitas and hysteria. These are just a few of the things we’ll miss about the late, great Tony Greig. In the process his voice rose up several ...

The Full Toss Cricket Blog. Full on debate about English cricket. England’s worst ever XI. I don’t think so. December 27, 2012. Slater, Mark Waugh etc were going to have a field day. This is by far the weakest Australian team I’ve ever seen even if they’re currently winning the Boxing Test day test at a canter. Australia’s recent successes are therefore absolutely meaningless. England will be licking their lips ahead of the Ashes. Australia have two world class players in Clarke and the ageless Hussey, a...

The Full Toss Cricket Blog. Full on debate about English cricket. England’s worst ever XI. 1 V West Indies, Lord’s, 2000. This was the one in the dark. After the first two tests were drawn, Moin Khan’s side set us 176 on the final afternoon to clinch that rarest of prizes a series win in Pakistan. But time was running very short. With the fielders dawdling and night closing in, Graham Thorpe (64*) and Graeme Hick (40) somehow saw us home in conditions of near-darkness. The Oval, 2003. This was the Johnny...

The Full Toss Cricket Blog. Full on debate about English cricket. England’s worst ever XI. Put it, as if he was picking up his dry-cleaning. Admittedly, he staged a recovery of kinds when calling the final wicket at Melbourne: “Australia are beaten…well beaten…beaten into the earth! How flabby would Sky be without him? Sir Ian Botham 2/10. While still offering the occasional nugget of genuine insight, ‘Whispering Death’ still retains his fatal flaw of stating the bleeding obvious. “...Uniquely perceptive...

The Full Toss Cricket Blog. Full on debate about English cricket. England’s worst ever XI. The Sydney Test is not a cricket blogger’s friend. 2010 has finished and we’re desperate to write a ‘review of the year’ art. Icle However, it’s almost impossible to reach any solid conclusions until the fifth test has been completed. Couldn’t they have moved the Ashes forward a week? 2010 began with a drawn series against the Cricketboks – a result we had mixed feelings about. On the positive side we did...It was ...
