Evil Dr Pain: Thank Heaven for the BBC
http://evildrpain.blogspot.com/2010/09/thank-heaven-for-bbc.html
Saturday, September 11, 2010. Thank Heaven for the BBC. The Proms have come and gone, marking the end of summer. This season of concerts, like no other, captivates my imagination; many weeks of great music, performed in one of the world's most iconic venues, aimed at making such masterpieces accessible to the general public, and out of phase with the main concert season. Occurring just as I move back to the US, it was exceptionally poignant this year. Thanks to the foresight of the BBC, the. Even that in...

Rob Jackson's Blog. Foursquare/Swarm: return of badges, and mayorships (but not yet). It’s almost exactly a year since Foursquare changed from its old form, and introduced the Swarm app for checking in. Since then both apps have evolved, but when mayorships were removed, Foursquare lost one of its best features. Last week, Swarm’s update on Android included some quite big changes. Full details are here. The local crown stickers, for the most check-ins at a location among your friends, seem to have gone, ...

Miss Atomic Bomb: Lamar Smith and the science funding legislation
http://missatomicbomb.blogspot.com/2015/05/lamar-smith-and-science-funding.html
The life and times of a female researcher in nuclear physics. Friday, May 8, 2015. Lamar Smith and the science funding legislation. There's been a lot of angry. Lately regarding the proposed science legislation. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that cutting funding for climate science is bad. Denying that climate change is real is bad enough. But there's a silver lining here that people are ignoring. Think carefully before you post. I reserve the right to moderate any comments posted to my blog. I'm a re...

Miss Atomic Bomb: Travel
http://missatomicbomb.blogspot.com/2014/03/travel.html
The life and times of a female researcher in nuclear physics. Sunday, March 23, 2014. Sorry, all. I'm going to do that thing you're not supposed to do with a blog and apologize for not writing in so long. But it wasn't my fault, in that sense. I was traveling. The difference this time was duration. I was away from home for 5 1/2 weeks. I have a news flash: a 5 1/2 week business trip is too long. I just finished installing and testing. It wasn't originally supposed to all happen at once, but in a fluk...

Think carefully before you post. I reserve the right to moderate any comments posted to my blog. I'm a research scie...

Evil Dr Pain: July 2010
http://evildrpain.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Yesterday evening, I returned to Windy Hill. Having thrown a sandwich and a bottle of Glencoe stout into a pack, I climbed the hill to watch the sunset. The grass was soft and cool beneath me. I sat, with a flask, the wind to my back, my eyes lingering over the foreboding mass of Ben Lomond and the jagged peaks of the Arrochar Alps, and vowed to return to this spot as often as I physically can. Never has a place so taken my heart. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Links to great things.
