About 10 days ago, I found out that a childhood friend and high school baseball teammate of mine had received terrible news. His 7-year-old daughter has been diagnosed with leukemia. Here's a glimpse of what I've been up to over the past month:. On the personal side, it was a great joy to dedicate Baby Abby to the Lord on April 5 before celebrating her first Easter on April 12. Saturday morning and I'm sitting here doing a little prep work for my 2008 tax return. My first task was to calculate all of the mileage that might qualify for a deduction, such as mileage related to medical purposes, charitable service mileage or un-reimbursed work mileage. Yikes Fifteen hundred dollars?

I was in the nation's capital last week in the days leading up to Barack Obama's inauguration because the NCAA Convention was held at the Gaylord National Resort in suburban Washington, D.C. I was able to sneak away from the convention on Thursday and tour the city. Here's a few snapshots of what I was able to see:. Washington Monument with the Capital just to the right in the distant background. Lincoln Memorial, easily my favorite stop.

But more often than not, when I explain to a non-sportsy friend or acquaintance that I work for a conference or that I'm a commissioner, they haven't the slightest idea what I do. Friday, December 28, 2012. Kelaiah Noelle Carman is finally here! While I can still remember the last couple of months, I'll try to journal it for you, sweet girl! We made it though most of this pregnancy without the liver problems I have had in both of our other pregnancies. We went to great lengths to keep my liver as happy as possible. :) But . around week 31, symptoms presented themselves, and so we went into Kelaiah (and Mommy) protection mode! We knew it wouldn't be long before we got to meet you.
