Reasonable Debate: The Quick Brown Fox (entirely off topic)
http://wintryconscience.blogspot.com/2005/03/quick-brown-fox-entirely-off-topic.html
Friday, March 18, 2005. The Quick Brown Fox (entirely off topic). 1) No punctuation other than commas. 2) Nothing too metaphorical or abstract. 3) No "scrabble" words. 4) No computer anagram programs or any other electronic assistance. New, quick blogs jumped over the lazy fox. (33). We improved blogs hunt a quick, jazzy fox. (33). Quick, interwoven blogs jumped a hazy fox. (34). We quick blogs never jumped the hazy fox. (33). Quick blogs jumped to interview a hazy fox. (35). 30) How quickly daft jumping...

Reasonable Debate: Big Moral Issues
http://wintryconscience.blogspot.com/2005/05/big-moral-issues.html
Thursday, May 26, 2005. At the root of any discussion of gentrification is one of fundamental questions of how societies should function: How should wealth be divided, and what system should allocate resources? Should it be left to the market? When should government interfere? Alex brings up the concept of ghettoization as the opposite of gentrification, and asks if a process and its opposite can both be bad. Yes! Posted by $eth @ 10:51 AM. Do they go to another fairly intact poor neighborhood, much like...

Reasonable Debate: Playing Economist
http://wintryconscience.blogspot.com/2005/02/playing-economist.html
Saturday, February 19, 2005. This posting is risky, as it is based largely on one economics class that I attended rarely and received a poor final grade in. Luckily, I know some real economists who will read this critically, and hopefully the rest of us can learn together. This makes a lot of sense to me, but I also have questions about it. Don't the tenants have incentive to fix their own homes? And if they are mixed, what factors allow rent control to work? That seems like it might be the best solution.

I'm Still in Japan: fuck the bomb
http://jamieabroad.blogspot.com/2006/10/fuck-bomb_25.html
I'm Still in Japan. For reasons I can't quite articulate, I'm still kicking around Japan, scraping together a life from restaurant work, translating, English teacher jobs and sheer luck. Wednesday, October 25, 2006. My boss’ family came to the office the other day, his lovely wife and the scheming little parasite that calls itself his son. What had this thing, barely two years in this world, what had he done to earn our respect? John Lennon. My favorite! It’s a great song! Ja ja ja ja JA ja ja ja! Their ...

I'm Still in Japan. For reasons I can't quite articulate, I'm still kicking around Japan, scraping together a life from restaurant work, translating, English teacher jobs and sheer luck. Saturday, December 30, 2006. The other couple spoke up from the seat ahead of us. "Ohmigod my ass is so big, my ass is so big in this photograph." As far as I could get from the furtive glances the photograph was her drivers license. "Can you believe my Dad told me that I looked liked shit in this? Jeez, I haven't taken ...

Tuesday, September 26, 2006. So they pumped it up to the size of a very tiny book. Most people don't know this but E B White was a very very, early Al Queda operative. J Edgar Hoover knew, but he was too busy chasing Commies at the time. I always thought E.B. White was a woman. I don't know why. Best of im still in japan.

Reasonable Debate: Gentrification
http://wintryconscience.blogspot.com/2005/02/gentrification.html
Saturday, February 19, 2005. This is gentrification, as I understand it now. Over the next few weeks I'll be trying to learn more about it, and appreciate any help that you can offer. I imagine much of what I write here will be torn apart in the face of actual information, and I hope come out of this with a far better understanding of it and everything related. Reasonable Debate: March 2005
http://wintryconscience.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 27, 2005. I've recently been thinking about starting a private prison. For those of us who have been around. Takes place within them. 20,000-$30,000 per prisoner per year isn't such an amazing bargain, particularly when you throw in the $50,000 to $200,000 per prisoner cost of building new prisons, (variation depends on climate and security level). This numbers come from groups on the left and may be exaggerated to prove a point, but even at the lowest cost per prisoner. That everyone escap...
