Blue Borage: A Healthy Diet for Bees
http://www.blueborage.blogspot.com/2014/04/a-healthy-diet-for-bees.html
Friday, 25 April 2014. A Healthy Diet for Bees. Bee on apple blossom. Creating an area of bee-friendly shrubs (with a beehive on the left, charcoal burner on the right and nesting goose watching it all in the background! Ancient woodland near to my beehives. The bees love to forage on the bluebells. This spring, oilseed rape is growing in nearly all of the fields surrounding the smallholding. I'd love to know which of my plants are the most nutritious for my bees, but as I can't know this, I'll do my bes...

Wednesday, 22 May 2013. A Landscape of Reeds.and the Bees Build Up for Summer. On a bleak winter day, though, everything changes. This blue and gold landscape becomes a dull copper and grey - and because there isn't any shelter from the wind, it can be bitterly cold. But, in any season, it's still a great place to watch wildlife. There are plenty of ducks here including Pochard, Red-crested Pochard and Tufted Ducks. This Pochard was half asleep, enjoying the sun. I'll be coming back here as soon as I can.

Thursday, 26 September 2013. September on the Cornish Coast and back to Harvests and Honey. Anyway, when the sun comes out it transforms the coast into stunning blue seas and skies that's wonderful for watching wildlife. I loved all the Kestrels; I've hardly seen any at home this year but there were many along the coast and so close, too. And then there was this cheeky little bird, which I think is a Rock Pipit. Naturally there are all the beautiful views. Sunset behind St Michael's Mount. An Ancient For...

Sunday, 23 June 2013. A Wildflower Meadow - and War and Peace in the Reed Bed Lagoon. Meadow Flowers at Rough Piece, including Common Spotted Orchid, Bird's Foot Trefoil and Buttercups. Here are some pics from the meadow;. I'm not sure about the middle flower. I wonder if it's one of the Marsh Orchids (unlike the Early Purple Orchid the leaves are unspotted). War and Peace in the Reed Bed Lagoon. 1 War: The Sad Story of Fighting Swans. Within minutes of my noticing this new family, the 'home' cob came th...
Blue Borage: February 2013

Thursday, 21 February 2013. I've made a list of the herbs that I would like to grow for pollinators, but I also have to consider that pollinators love herbs when they flower - and the leaves of some flowering herbs can taste bitter. So when I'm looking at these herbs (like basil) that I want to use in the kitchen, I'll have to keep some flower-free and let others go on to bloom. In my cottage garden flower area; I'm growing bergamot - a favourite bee herb. On the edge of this area I'm growing lavende...

The Tenacious Gardener!: Octagonal pergola and lazy people
http://thetenaciousgardener.blogspot.com/2015/08/octagonal-pergola-and-lazy-people.html
Sharing our success and failures of cold climate gardening in the Scottish Highlands. Meet the TG crew. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Octagonal pergola and lazy people. This weather continues to astound me. It's now the height of summer and yet I not only needed to wear a thick fleece when I was mowing the lawn on the ride on but I had to have the hood up and tied tightly to keep it there! The first few attempts were diabolical - I built the panels in the workshop (and even made a mistake on those that still e...

It's A Stock Item: September 2014
http://itsastockitem.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
It's A Stock Item. Monday, 8 September 2014. Can we make a pig ark from stock items? With two side struts added, the base was carried up to its first home in the lower field. The end pieces each came out of half a sheet of 18mm ply, with a bolt-secured door. The roof struts which, like the corrugated steel, were leftovers from our old postbarn, were friction fitted to the ends. So there we were. I had to buy the plywood and the bolts, but all the other bits came from stock. Posted by Ian Thorpe.

It's A Stock Item. Saturday, 26 March 2016. Installing a window, and fixing a loo. Again I took a Land Rover full of tools, in particular saws of all varieties, electric and hand - but the most used star of this show was my Bosch multitool with its small, oscillating blade. This offers such accurate and reliable cutting that most of the window work and the cutting out of a door opening from one stall to the next were achieved without even changing the blade. Skip to main content. Quod me nutrit me destruit. What nourishes me destroys me. WE ARE NOT GOODS. March 08, 2015. Since, its Womens Day, Ive been thinking about how far weve come and how far we still have to go. I thought Id do a little rant about something that continues to make me angry. Very angry. I know that even in 2015 there are a lot of issues women still have to deal with on a daily basis, but Im going to focus on one that really gets on my nerves. Why it's okay to like 50 Shades of Grey. I can...

Senin, 27 Juli 2015. HR Series : Working With Heart.
