My Dog Shoba: The Pigman Triathlon 6/5/11
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2011/06/pigman-triathlon-6511.html
Tuesday, June 7, 2011. The Pigman Triathlon 6/5/11. For whatever reason, I lucked out and got a parking space in the row next to the transition area. I unloaded my bike, checked the tire pressure, and set my two bags of gear next to it. Heading for the transition entrance, I was greeted by an army of race volunteers, one of whom marked my arms and legs for the race. Lucky number 431! As the line moved up, I was anxious about the swim. How would the wetsuit work? Soon I was standing at the starting mat.

My Dog Shoba: Rochesterfest Triathlon 6/19/11
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2011/06/rochesterfest-triathlon-61911.html
Monday, June 20, 2011. Father's Day 2011. Rochester, MN. My friend Matt Russell joined me for the 4th annual Rochesterfest Triathlon. It was a cool, overcast day. Temps in the low 70's. It was an excellent day for the race! The last time I had been for a swim was the Pigman. Same with the biking. I figured that I'd just do the best I could, try to keep breathing, and avoid the DNF. Swim - 6:46 29/243 overall, 21/127 mens, 2/16 Division. Fortunately, there was my family, cheering me on! This has been my s...

My Dog Shoba: Feather II
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2015/05/feather-ii.html
Thursday, May 7, 2015. I volunteer with a group out in South Dakota called Re-Member. If you've read my blog before, you are probably already familiar. If not, in short, it is a group that works on light construction projects in one of the financially poorest counties on the continent. They also do some amazing cultural awareness programs. Here is an e-mail that was sent out today. Working with the Oglala Lakota Oyate on the Pine Ridge Reservation, S.D. 25 a month for a year is huge. Even sharing the lin...

My Dog Shoba: July 2015
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 24, 2015. Why Climate Change is a Good Thing. The world is changing. We've been hearing about global warming and climate change for years. There are, of course, many consequences of this disaster that scientists around the world have been telling us about. As temperatures change, different ecosystems will be unable to evolve with the change and species of flora and fauna will die out. Ice caps will melt and sea levels will rise, forever changing the landscape. What is this madness? We have t...

My Dog Shoba: May 2015
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 28, 2015. Do Bee Do Bee Do. Just completed the second hive check on our little swarm on the hill. The good news is, I think everything is going well! The bad news is, I am still new enough that I doubt I'd be able to see a problem before it got really big. Today, since I've got bees on the brain, I thought I'd give a short primer on bees, just so people can get to know these fascinating little wonder creatures. But let's delve a little into the life cycle of bees, just for fun. Because ...

My Dog Shoba: December 2014
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 29, 2014. I looked over at Bobbi with a question. Just getting ready." She said. And my heart hurt to hear her voice again. "It's almost time.". Thus began a year of firsts. First holidays without a mom. First birthday without a mom. First spring. First summer. First autumn and first start of winter. So many bittersweet firsts. So many thoughts of "Mom would have loved that". And now, in this early morning, a first year completed since my Mom died. I miss my mom. Links to this post.

My Dog Shoba: February 2014
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Tanked, Part Deux. Well, after a few weeks of water changes, treatments and learning even more than I have about fish tanks and proper care and feeding, the water became safe for fish again. This was no small thing, since Blondie, Goldie and Mr. Boney have survived the full ignorance and unimaginable high toxicity levels of the tank thus far. So, with some trepidation, I headed out after I dropped the kiddos at school to do a little fish shopping. Remarkably, thankfully, and h...

My Dog Shoba: August 2014
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. PTSD sucks. It sneaks up and takes over, making it hard to function. When it hits hard I can't do anything. It is hard to get up in the morning. Hard to do anything but sit and stew in my own thoughts. What really, really stinks though, is reaching a point were I am doing good. Feeling good. Getting things accomplished. I feel like I am over the whole PTSD thing. Past the crippling depression. And unless you've had severe depression or PTSD or both, it seems like a totally reason...

My Dog Shoba: January 2014
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 20, 2014. A fish tank and Guppies." She answered without hesitation. Great minds think alike, as we had already bought a tank and were in the process of getting it all set up for his birthday. So we agreed that the tank would be from Mom and the Guppies from us. It worked out great, and Dad had a tank of finned friends to watch at the hotel. Yesterday we were finally ready to go pick out some fish. I was thinking about Guppies and Danios, since I had read up on those and knew they wer...

My Dog Shoba: Flap...The Update
http://mydogshoba.blogspot.com/2015/07/flapthe-update.html
Thursday, July 23, 2015. Remember this guy from a couple of posts ago? When last we left off, we were feeding it every twenty minutes like clockwork. The days were a blur. I was so.so.so very tired. The wife did some of the feedings. I even taught the kids to feed it and caught short naps during the day. So I took pictures as Flap changed each day. And with each passing day I got more and more attached to the little guy (or girl). So here, in pictures, is a little log of our miracle bird. Best Dog Ever d...
